San Juan County Utah will host a one-year AmeriCorps VISTA in the San Juan County Economic Development Office, Monticello, Utah. The AmeriCorps VISTA will facilitate a program for employment opportunity and growth targeted to the local Native American Community in San Juan County, Utah.
Member Duties : The Native American community of San Juan County represents 48.5% of the total residents. The unemployment rate for this group is 12.10%.Our goal is to help employ 98 people to reduce unemployment to 11.5%. The VISTA will create content for this community that will enable evaluation of the skills and educational attainment. They will work with Utah Workforce Services to identify the open positions available and develop a volunteer pool from various fields construction, electrical, plumbing, hospitality, etc., and tourism.They will design materials for social media, survey’s, and printed content that will be distributed throughout the county. This will encourage individuals in the Native American community to sign up for the program.Finally, they will review the survey replies and produce feedback that analyzes the applicants capabilities and allows development of the programs for the 98 individuals in the program.
