Job Title: Parent Educator

Reports To: Parents as Teachers Program Coordinator

Department: Programs

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Full-time. 8am-5pm (M-F). Additional days or hours may be required.

Pay Type and Range: _X __ SALARIED AT _$33,000 - $35,000 (ANNUAL)_

General Purpose:

A Parent Educator in the Parents as Teachers (PAT) program works with families on parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting, and family well-being. This position is responsible for recruiting families to the program, utilizing the Parents as Teachers Foundational Curriculum in culturally sensitive ways, facilitating activities, and reflecting with parents and families.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Engages in recruitment activities to identify families for the program.
  • Completes an initial and annual family-centered assessment with each family.
  • Completes at least an initial and annual developmental screening and health review for each enrolled child.
  • Develops, monitors, and reviews goals with each family.
  • Uses the PAT Foundational Curriculum to share research-based information with families.
  • Provides personal visits focused on parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting,

2 and family well-being (including planning, delivering, and documenting the visit). Commented [EP1]: Are personal visits different than home visits? If not, I may collapse other bullet points together.

  • Completes the required number of Home Visits per month per family depending on family characteristics and identified stressors.
  • Uses Visit Tracker to schedule Home Visits, maintain Personal Visit Records (PVR), enter

Planning Guides, and complete other tasks required by the Coordinator.

  • Maintains a thorough and detailed Outlook calendar.
  • Provides group connections to give families an opportunity to build social connections with each other, engage in parent-child interaction activities, and increase their knowledge of ways to support children’s development.
  • Connects families to resources that help them reach their goals and address their needs.
  • Submits all required family and program documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Organizes and inventories supplies, curriculum, other materials.
  • Participates in monthly reflective supervision and all required staff meetings.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Parents as Teachers Program Coordinator.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Self-confident educator with the ability to enthusiastically engage and energize families.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
  • Strong technological/computer skills (must be comfortable working with different databases and with Microsoft Office 365).
  • Comfortable with remote work and technology like Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
  • Ability to be a team player and work with diverse populations.
  • Excellent time management/organization skills.
  • Knowledgeable of resources in the community. Existing working relationships with resource agencies strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of family support and strengthening.

Education and Experience:

Education: High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, social work, health, psychology, or a related field is strongly preferred.

Experience: Minimum 2 years of supervised work experience with young children and/or parents.

Certificates: Family Development Credential (FDC) must be completed within first year of hire. The Parents as Teachers Foundational and Model Implementation Trainings must be completed before the Parent Educator can begin providing PAT services.
