The Clark County Real Property Management Department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Painter position. This position will provide interior and exterior painting services at various County owned facilities. The ideal candidate will have professional experience painting by hand and operating spray equipment.

This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or may be extended as needed by Human Resources.

Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the selection process.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school AND five (5) years of journey-level experience in the painting trade. Successful completion of a recognized apprenticeship as a painter may be substituted for three (3) years of the required experience.

Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application. Do not substitute a resume for your application or write "see attached resume" on your application.

Working Conditions: Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations. Work with exposure to potentially hazardous paints and coating materials.

Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver's license at time of appointment.

Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician. A respirator test is part of the examination.

Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Plans projects, estimates materials, tools and equipment for work assignments; orders and picks up materials and supplies from outside vendors as appropriate; prepares cost estimates for individual jobs. Prepares surfaces for painting, texturing and covering by sanding, scraping, washing and brushing to remove old paint, rust, scales, and irregular surfaces; removes graffiti by chemical means or painting over the markings. Coordinates painting schedules with occupants of buildings, offices and park and recreation facilities to assure minimal disruption to public traffic and normal office operations. Spreads drop cloths, tapes protective coverings and otherwise ensures that paint is not applied to unwanted areas. Applies paint, textures and wall coverings by brush, roller or spray equipment to a variety of structures, equipment and surfaces, including interior and exterior of office and shop buildings, public facilities, valves, piping and office furniture and fixtures. Mixes paints, stains, varnishes and shellacs by adding thinners as necessary to achieve proper consistency. Erects scaffolding up to 25 feet high; works from ladders and planks to reach high surfaces. Cleans and maintains brushes, rollers and spray painting equipment. Maintains and services painting equipment and hand and power tools; keeps a small inventory of frequently used supplies. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. May direct the work of less skilled assistants on specific projects; ensures that proper safety precautions are followed. May install and tape sheetrock. Maintains records of work performed and materials used. May use a mobile device to lookup or input data related to the work. Drives County vehicles to work sites and transports materials and assistants as required.

SPECIAL DUTIES - FOR GRAFFITI ABATEMENT POSITIONS:
Certain positions may perform the following duties that support the Graffiti Abatement Program: responding to graffiti vandalism complaints from the public, removing graffiti by applying all types of paints and graffiti removal products by brush, roller or spray gun, researching property ownership, collecting evidence, maintaining tracking data base and documentation, taking photographs of all tags and monikers to catalog as evidence, preparing damage estimates to be used in court cases, testifying in court, and interacting with the public and community groups during graffiti clean-up projects and activities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Mobility to work in a typical shop or related maintenance setting, including operating typical trade test equipment, hand and power tools and standard office equipment, and to drive a motor vehicle to various work sites; stamina to stand, walk and climb to 25 feet and to work in confined or awkward spaces for an extended period of time; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds with proper equipment; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over a radio or telephone.
