Job description

This position is responsible for providing paint/sign shop services in the Paint Shop, which services campus, university affiliated buildings, and MTC.

Essential Functions

  • Ensures efficient and effective paint/sign maintenance of university buildings and grounds 40%
  • Prompt response to Service Requests and Work Orders.
  • Work with University Police on road paint maintenance and signage, including new and replacement signs.
  • Ensures efficient and effective paint/signage including remodeling or improvement projects in University buildings and Grounds 45%
  • Coordination and communication with customer, supervisor, and shops.
  • Good open communication with the Planning Department.
  • Provide shop assistance on contract construction projects.
  • Develop a positive work environment for student employees.
  • Ensures efficient use of supplies with minimal waste

  • Ensure shop and storage areas are clean and organized.

  • Contributes good personal citizenship and set examples for employees to follow.

Major changes in the design construction of work order remodeling projects must be referred to the Paint Shop Manager. Recommendations concerning budget or major shop equipment purchases must be approved by the Director, Shop Maintenance and Project Delivery.

Education/Experience

Minimum education required:

Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications

  • Prefer 2 years professional experience in painting or 2 years professional experience in a sign shop or both.

Work Location: Provo Campus

Environment: Frequent exposure to unfavorable conditions such as all-weather, or working in cramped, very dirty, or unpleasant quarters

Physical Exam Required: Y

Physical Exam Details: Working from ladders and working on knees

Lifting 5 gallon paint buckets

Working with power sanders and spray pumps

Working outside and creating dust

Working inside in new construction areas

Hazards include many paint-related chemicals (thinners, epoxies, oil-based paints).

Safety training and personal protection supplied.

Approximate Starting Salary: $47,500 - $61,500
