Description of Work Unit
CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and within CSU to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations.

Position Summary
CSU/CEMML is hiring for an Overseas Environmental Management Support position. This position will be responsible for working with the Air Force Civil Engineering Center (AFCEC) Overseas Environmental Subject Matter Expert to support AFCEC in sustaining natural resources through natural resource planning and development at Overseas Installations. The Overseas Environmental Management Support position will support the Overseas Environmental Subject Matter Expert in program execution capacity.

This position is able to be fully remote. This position may require occasional travel to locations that this position will support.

Required Job Qualifications
  • BA/BS in environmental, business, science or other related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in environmental management.
  • Experience implementing overseas environmental planning/conservation/compliance/remediation instructions.
  • Technical expertise in building overseas environmental project and program requirements.
  • Experience developing annual environmental program plans.
  • Working knowledge of Department of Defense (DoD) overseas environmental policies.
  • Working knowledge of country specific final governing standards.
  • Experience with the Overseas Environmental Baseline Guidance Document (OEBGD).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date.
  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in environmental, business, science or other related field.
  • Familiarity with Air Force overseas environmental policies.
  • Experience briefing and/or presenting environmental policy and guidance to stakeholders and varying levels.

  • Assist in performing policy/guidance review and deliver comments to government staff that relate to overseas environmental planning (natural and historic resources), compliance, and remediation.
  • Assist in providing support for the Overseas Environmental Baseline Guidance Document (OEBGD) updates and assisting Air Force Staff in questions related to OEBGD standards.
  • Provide technical expertise and support the AFCEC Overseas Environmental Subject Matter Expert in reviewing and providing recommendations to Air Staff for project validations on all overseas remediation projects.
  • Advise on overseas policy and program requirements and assist the government staff to develop goals, objectives and initiatives in the areas of Integrated Solid Waste, Recycling, Pollution Prevention, Hazardous Materials Management, Hazardous Waste Management and Green Procurement programs for the Overseas Community.

  • Provide support to the AFCEC Overseas Environmental Subject Matter Expert in preparation of required quarterly Office of Secretary of Deference (OSD)-sponsored committee meetings in order to provide technical assistance to the Air Force representative to liaise with other Head Quarter (HQ) Service counterparts.
  • Assisting in preparing HQ Air Force and SAF level briefings on the status of the Air Force Overseas Environmental Program. May also be required to give briefings and/or presentations.
