POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Position Title: Watershed Outreach Specialist

Location: Toronto-Fall River Watershed and John Redmond Reservoir Watershed in Kansas
Remote office, travel required
Outreach Specialist must live within/near to the boundaries of the
Toronto-Fall River or John Redmond Reservoir watershed.
These counties include Chase, Lyon, Coffey, Greenwood, Woodson, Morris, and Butler

Mileage reimbursement & cell phone stipend, flexible schedule

We’ve been working with landowners and producers across Kansas for more than 25 years to improve water quality, reduce sediment and nutrient runoff, and building strong partnerships with natural resource agencies and other organizations along the way. Job Description: Our Watershed Outreach Specialist works directly with the Watershed Protection and
Restoration Strategy (WRAPS) Coordinator with producers and landowners to implement agricultural best management practices for improving water quality. Additionally, they:

● provide oversight for outreach to watershed stakeholders and residents regarding WRAPS projects

● develop goal-driven outreach campaigns to engage producers and other stakeholders for improving soil health and water quality

● assist Watershed Coordinator with the WRAPS Stakeholder Leadership Team (SLT) meetings
● work closely with our Executive Director and other team members to support the mission and vision of KAWS

The successful candidate will:

● possess skill in interpersonal relationships;
● market, organize, and conduct public outreach programs to inform watershed landowners and producers of available programs and funding to address water quality impairments and in-field resource concerns

● be experienced in coordinating the logistics of large workshops, as well as small meetings;
● be comfortable working with the Google Suite and Microsoft Office platforms and other graphics programs such as Canva
● experienced in producing professional content for social media outlets;
● have the ability to generate reports and educational materials;
● have familiarity on the principles, practices, terminology, and techniques of agricultural science related to water quality, nutrient management, soil health, and soil conservation;
● display high standards of ethical conduct;
● commit to quality of service;
● display a high level of initiative and commitment;
● work with minimal supervision;
● demonstrate responsible behavior and attention to detail;
● follow organizational policy and cooperate with supervisors;

Education: A degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Marketing, Communications, Agriculture, Natural Resource Conservation or Environmental Science is preferred or equivalent experience.

Compensation: beginning at $2750.00/month

Job Qualifications: Applicant should be a detail oriented individual with the ability to work independently and prioritize a variable work schedule and have good communication skills, both verbally and in writing. Knowledge of Google Suite of products, social media, basic graphic design principles, and event planning is a must.

Job will occasionally require hosting activities in rough terrain and/or inclement weather conditions.
