New England Donor Services (NEDS) coordinates organ and tissue donation in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, the eastern counties of Vermont and Bermuda. Responsible for one of the largest of the 57 Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) that make up the nation’s donation system, NEDS works with about 200 hospitals and serves 14 million people in our region, screening nearly 50,000 potential donor referrals annually. With approximately $90M in operating revenues, NEDS employs 250 clinical and non-clinical staff members throughout New England.

Job Description

Performs a variety of clerical and administrative support activities for the organ
operations center by screening referrals, making copies, faxing and assembling donor charts.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Answers incoming telephone calls with a strong emphasis placed on customer service.
  • Triages appropriate heartbeating and asystolic referrals to clinical staff.
  • Inputs referral information into designated clinical database and participates in Quality Assurance of this information.
  • Assembles donor charts and maintains donor records. Insures the security, confidentiality and availability of records in compliance with the policies and procedures of NEDS and other governing institutions.
  • Distributes faxes as appropriate to Organ Clinical Coordinator(s).
  • Arranges transportation for specimen(s) and/or organs when requested by the Organ Clinical Coordinator.
  • Attends regularly scheduled department and inter-departmental meetings and trainings as well as all mandatory NEDS staff meetings per year.
  • Performs tasks requested by the Organ Clinical Coordinator(s).
  • Performs all other duties as designated by the Associate Director, Organ Operations & Surgical Recovery.

This position is currently a temporary role, last approximately 6 months.

Nights Monday through Friday 10:30pm-6:30am. 8hr shifts (40 hours per week)

This position requires onsite attendance at the Waltham office.


Qualifications


The Organ Operations Coordinator (OOC) should have excellent communication skills, strong organizational skills and strong attention to detail.

  • Proficient use of office equipment including but not limited to personal computer, fax machines, calculator, photo copier, scanner and telephone.
  • This position requires basic computer skills in Word, Excel, Outlook, electronic mail and ability to learn NED’S internal systems including but not limited to TrueNorth.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Flexibility and a positive attitude are a must.
