Role overview

CEG Digital wishes to engage the services of an Online Tutor for their MSc Applied Public Health course run in partnership with UCLan university.

Online Tutors play a central role in the day-to-day success and vibrancy of the university’s online courses and are a consistent presence in the modules to which they are assigned and are usually the first point of contact for academic queries from students. Each Online Tutor will have a group of up to 30 students.

This is a flexible, part-time role and it is estimated that during a typical week, each student group may need approximately ten hours of online tutoring, although flexibility is required in order to accommodate busy periods such as assessment. Note that there will be key dates and contact points you will be required to adhere to which are driven by assessment dates in the course calendar. Full details will be provided prior to the start of the module.

The Course

This exciting new MSc course has been designed to help students develop the skills needed to meet the needs of the health workforce. The course covers a range of disciplines, including health protection, epidemiology, strategies and interventions, global public health and risk management. Students will learn to effectively plan, conduct, and analyse research into public health, as well as apply theoretical perspectives to real-world issues. They will understand key factors affecting inequality in health, and the importance of addressing these while identifying ways to assess, protect and improve the health of populations.

The Module

The aim of this module is to support students in developing a critical, analytical, and integrative understanding of theory, policy and practice in relation to healthy and sustainable settings. Students are encouraged to examine factors that influence health, wellbeing, and sustainability across a variety of contexts. Students will explore the development of policy and strategies to facilitate students’ critical understanding of the ways in which public health professionals, governments and non-governmental health organisations can work together to identify health needs and health assets within communities and help to reduce inequalities in health.
