Job description
Under general supervision, employee is responsible for performing motor, physical, or occupational therapy for children in the Rural Infant Services Program. Employee is responsible for assessing normal and abnormal motor, sensory, neural, and musculoskeletal growth and development of infants and toddlers with, or at risk for, developmental delays. Employee is responsible for providing direct service to children and training caregivers in therapeutic techniques and exercises within their natural environment, such as their home, day care setting, etc. Employee must exercise tact and courtesy in contact with staff, children, families, public, and service providers.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Must be physically able to operate a variety of diagnostic instruments, sensory and physical therapy equipment with can include goniometer, reflex hammers, splinting materials, weights, wheelchairs, etc.
  • Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Initiates contact with the family within the designated 30-day timeline to implement services; tracks all families that have an IFSP within a document and/or a spreadsheet to once a month with the Director and/ or Clinical Coordinator to ensure compliance with IFSP.
  • Conducts wide range of developmental screenings using a variety of instruments; conducts in-take and makes recommendations for assessment; facilitates developmental assessments of referred children; coordinates development of Individualized Family Service Plan (Plan of Care).
  • Manages services provided with Service Coordinators and other medical providers.
  • Attends workshops, training, and conferences pertaining to early intervention.
  • Participates in formulating program goals, policies, and procedures.
  • Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.
  • Performs other related work as required.
  • Assists in training of new staff in area of expertise.
  • Ability to navigate and bill within an EHR for each family that receives Motor and/or OT services
  • Ability to manage a caseload of at least 30 children and families.
  • Employee must meet highest entry-level standard in one of the disciplines designated in Part C of IDEA
  • Employee must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Motor or Occupational Therapy
  • Maintains all licensure requirements in order to implement the assessments and services.

  • Must possess a valid Virginia Driver’s License.
  • Must obtain a TB test with satisfactory results within 30 days of employment, and yearly thereafter as required by licensing authority.
  • Must possess certification in First Aid and Child and Infant CPR.
