Job Description: Pre-Nursing Instructor

The Opportunity: Pre-Nursing Pathway Instructor
The New Orleans Career Center is adding a full-time Pre-Nursing Instructor position to our high school instructional team. The right candidate will assist in delivering high quality training to high school students, aligned to NHA Patient Care Tech exam and the state of LA Certified Nursing Assistant exam. NOCC instructors develop curriculum, organize guest speakers and coordinate work-based learning, and ensure that all students receive the support to complete the program. In addition, all team members contribute to participating and contributing to the growth and development of NOCC.

Requirements

➢ A current Registered Nurse (RN) license is preferred, but a minimum of a LPN license is required

➢ A minimum of 2 years long term-care facility experience

➢ Interested in working with an experienced team from education and healthcare to provide hands on learning and support for high school student

Not Required: Previous experience as a high school or college instructor

Key Responsibilities
➢ Instructional Planning: Prepare in-person education plans for trainees based on individually assessed needs in accordance with the goals, objectives, and alignment with the NHA PCT certification exam and CNA exam and rotations.

➢ Instructional delivery: Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning and integrate soft-skill instruction and feedback into competency-based content area activities

➢ Technical Training: Review, support the development of, and execute in-person (or online) training to model, practice, and reinforce program specific hands-on skills and knowledge.

➢ Communication: Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students as well as team members, program support, and administration concerning student performance at NOCC.

➢ Contribute to the ongoing success and development of NOCC through participation and collaboration in team meetings, strategic partnerships, planning, and active communication celebrating successes and sharing challenges.

➢ Evaluation and feedback: Evaluate student progress on a regular basis, including status reporting on student progress and provide daily feedback to students on individual performance and progress

➢ Maintain NOCC and program specific standards based on industry guidelines, credentialing, professional licensure, professional and university requirements.

➢ Professional Development: Participate in professional learning, staff meetings, and check-ins with instructional coach, support, and administrative team members.

➢ Testing: Coordinate registration and serve as a proctor for industry-based credentialing exams. Assured social distancing and proper infection procedures are communicated and reinforced with trainees and families with the support of the NOCC team.

➢ Compliance and Safety: Take all necessary and reasonable safety precautions to protect students, materials, equipment and facilities. Notify the NOCC supervisor of all guest speakers and visitors prior to introduction to trainees and/or staff for approval.

➢ Optimize academy impact: On a weekly basis, generate reports to update instructional and administrative team partners of all students’ progress and assess effectiveness of instructional approach (curriculum, assessments, modules, etc.) and adjust approaches to improve student outcomes aligned to credential attainment.

➢ Manage Materials: Recommend, purchase, and catalog instructional materials, supplies, equipment, and visual aids designed to meet student educational needs and employability standards.

➢ Monitor and supervise work based learning activities, including the supervision of internships, pre-apprenticeships, clinical training and rotations for CNA certification in partnership with the pre-nursing team. Supervise and partner with academic leadership on pre-approved field trips.

Key Preparation
➢ Understanding of the scope and sequence and clinical requirements of Pre-Nursing certification/licensure
➢ Knowledge of general office procedures including typing, filing, use of office equipment
➢ Knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite
➢ Experience in facilitating virtual and in person training courses, setup, and maintenance of training rooms and skills practice
➢ Knowledge of preparing course materials for tests, evaluations, handouts and other training aids
➢ Knowledge of organizing training data, reports, and course schedules
➢ 2+ years of experience working with with trainees/diverse learners

More about NOCC: The NOCC team partners across industry, education, government, community and workforce development to design and deliver workforce preparation and training programs aligned to economic growth and access to opportunity in the Greater New Orleans area. Our current pathways span healthcare, engineering and manufacturing, culinary arts and hospitality management. New Orleans Career Center will strategically grow programming and partnerships over the next five years to expand pathways and triple our 2022 trainee enrollment to serve 1200 New Orleanians annually by 2024. NOCC will relocate to a renovated, 140,000 sq/ft. state-of-the- art technical training facility in late Spring 2023.
