Nurse, Opioid Treatment Program

Position Summary
Provides medication assisted treatment in the form of methadone. Must be flexible to meet the needs of patients being served in an opioid treatment program including working in other clinics as assigned. Functions as a part of the interdisciplinary treatment team under the direction of the Program Director.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Performs duties under the direction of the OTP Program Director and/or Program Physician.
  • Assists with admission and discharge of patients under the direction of the OTP Program Director and/or Program Physician following state and federal guidelines for OTPs.
  • Supervise the administering of of medication to OTP patients.
  • Monitors for potential adverse effects of medications and reports concerns to the Program Director and/or Program Director.
  • Ensures accuracy of medication orders for all patients within the OTP.
  • Confirm orders for and prepare take home methadone doses.
  • Participates as a member of the interdisciplinary team by carrying out treatment interventions within limits of training and licensure and by communicating observations regarding patients to other members of the treatment team.
  • Documents all care provided and patient response in the patient's medical record per established procedures and Standards of Care on assigned patient caseload.
  • Conducts patient/family education related to medications, and general physical and mental health needs.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement activities as assigned.
  • Maintains professional behavior consistent with the principles of customer relations, total quality management, and teamwork.
  • Maintains confidentiality in accordance with established policy and procedure.
  • Participates in staff meetings and continuing education activities to continually update current knowledge regarding nursing.
  • Flexibility in work schedule as determined by organizational needs.
  • Maintains basic knowledge of computer software utilized for patient recordkeeping.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements
  • Knowledge and skills regarding basic nursing care and general knowledge regarding preparation and administration of medications.
  • Knowledge of medication assisted treatment, specifically methadone.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Licensed by the State of Indiana as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Maintain current crisis prevention/intervention and American Red Cross CPR/AED certification.
  • Maintain current Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification
  • Completes all required continuing education requirements in a timely manner.
  • Completion of a minimum of four hours of training specific to Opioid Treatment Programs and/or methadone maintenance.
Physical Demands
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Exposure to disturbed and potentially aggressive patients is possible. Stress ranges from low to intense depending on situation.
  • Physical strength necessary to implement CPI interventions.
  • Sitting, standing, reaching, bending, stooping as necessary to provide individualized patient care.
Work Environment
Environment is a hospital-like atmosphere with access to an outside patio on in-patient unit. Other locations are more of a transitional setting in which the patient requires assistance. May have to help bathe and feed patients. This position requires the ability to work under fluctuating levels of stress in a model of least restrictive care and proactive quality customer service.
Conditions of Employment
  • Completion of tuberculin screening no later than three days prior to first day of employment and annually thereafter
  • Completion of MMR, Varicella, influenza and coronavirus vaccine Completion of MMR, Varicella, influenza and coronavirus vaccine
  • Completion of a pre-employment drug screening and completion of post-employment drug or alcohol tests upon reasonable suspicion of use.
  • Completion of Center-wide orientation and ALL required paperwork prior to reporting for work
  • Demonstrated computer literacy through successful completion of pre-employment testing may be required.
  • Completion of HCI Commitment to Quality training, Trauma Informed Care, and Relias Learning.
  • Attendance at all mandatory staff development and training
  • Successful completion of a six month on the job orientation period
  • Participation in payroll electronic deposit
  • Adherence to Compliance Program Plan
  • Satisfactory reference and background investigation checks.
