SUMMARY OF THE JOB

This individual will perform routine and specific specialized nuclear medicine procedures at a level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail under the direction of a radiologist. Administration of radiopharmaceuticals is required. Individuals will adhere to the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Scope of Practice and Performance Standards.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB DUTIES (50%)

  • Performs nuclear medicine procedures.
  • Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic imaging and assists the radiologist in ordering and administering radionuclide therapy procedures.
  • Performs daily QC on radiopharmaceuticals, imaging equipment, well counter, uptake probe, dose calibrator, imaging cameras, and ensures proper documentation is maintained per NRC and State regulations.
  • Performs IV injections using safe sterile technique.
  • Responds to emergency call back when assigned.
  • Schedules patients as appropriate.
  • Maintains and ensures adequate supply of radionuclides and radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Assists with orientation of new staff and students.
  • Keeps area supplied and clean.
  • Performs office responsibilities when required.
  • Participates in in-services.
  • Monitors vital signs as necessary.
  • Uses the Biodose software efficiently as well as EMR and PACS functions as necessary.
  • Maintains equipment to decrease downtime and overtime expense.
  • Participates in performance improvement and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Supervision includes technologists in orientation, radiology students and diagnostic student aides.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. He or she must have a good understanding of Radiation Safety and how to protect themselves, others, and the patients and practice ALARA. Individual must be able to perform all tasks in the modality Core Competency. Individual must be competent to care for all patients of any age. Employee must maintain BLS CPR certification for healthcare providers. Must be flexible in work situations and schedule. Education and Experience

The individual must be a graduate of a recognized NM Technology program and meet clinical experience, didactic course work and alternative eligibility as specified by the ARRT. If registered by the ARRT in Nuclear Medicine or NMTCB no experience is required.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

The individual must be licensed by the Indiana State Department of Health as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist. He or she will be certified by the ARRT as a CNMT or by the NMTCB and maintain annual renewal/registration with the certifying organization. If registry eligible, employee must be certified within 6 months of hire to avoid termination. Registry with NMTCB will be required within one year of hire. Revocation or inability to maintain licensure and/or registration may result in termination of the individual. Renewal of license is required 2 weeks prior to expiration date.


Language Skills

The individual will communicate with patients, families, visitors, physicians, nursing staff, other hospital staff members, and various other customers of all ages in emergent and non-emergent situations. The individual must be able to articulate, read, and write diagnosis and symptoms on pertinent patient exams. The individual must have an understanding of medical terminology. The individual will use accepted hospital communication processes such as read back and verify, asking clarifying questions, SBAR, and the language hotline to assure safe communications with customers.


Mathematical Skills

The individual must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.


Reasoning Ability

Considerable initiative and judgment is required in performing and supervising NM procedures in a safe and efficient work area. This position requires clear speech, attentiveness, and sound judgment.


Computer Skills

This individual will be required to have a general based knowledge of computers and windows based program. As technology advances, so do the computer needs of this profession. The individual must be competent on a PC and also the advanced software applications of the modality.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: Talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must be able to lift/transfer patients weighing up to 450 pounds with assistance; may frequently move equipment weighing up to 1500 pounds with assistance. Transport of patients and equipment may be on tiled or carpeted surfaces with or without inclines. Independently moves or lifts up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.


Work Environment

Individual may work in teams or independently. The individual may be exposed to infectious diseases and/or contaminated materials. Employee will be exposed to radiation.
