Lazard is one of the world's leading advisors on a wide range of strategic and financial issues, including mergers, acquisitions, restructurings, capital advisory, sovereign advisory, shareholder advisory, and related strategic matters. We operate from 41 cities across 26 countries in North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Central and South America.

With origins dating to 1848, we have long specialized in crafting solutions to the complex financial and strategic challenges of a diverse set of clients around the world, including corporations, governments, institutions, partnerships, and individuals. Our work is distinguished by senior banker involvement, deep industry sector expertise, and global reach, and we are regularly involved in large, complex and industry-defining transactions, often across national borders.

Lazard is differentiated among the leading investment banks in our history of investing in Analysts and developing them into successful senior bankers over time, including with our Analyst to Associate (“A2A”) program. Lazard offers an unparalleled opportunity for Analysts to work as a key part of small teams on highly strategic assignments, providing immediate and meaningful exposure to senior executives, leaders, and bankers.

Group Profile:

The Special Opportunities (“Spec Opps”) Group is Lazard’s highly selective, multidisciplinary advisory team that reports directly to Lazard’s CEO of Financial Advisory.

Spec Opps is a nimble, generalist team that develops and executes on high-impact investment banking assignments globally across a range of industries, client types, and financial products. The team also works directly with Lazard Financial Advisory leadership on strategic initiatives for the firm and houses “Lazard Lab,” the firm’s in-house centers of excellence on complex topics that span sectors, products, and geographies.

  • Strategic and corporate development initiatives for Lazard’s Financial Advisory leaders
  • Development of innovative financial products and new business lines (e.g., geopolitical advisory, climate finance, etc.)
  • Intellectual capital for the firm’s global network on topics spanning public policy, global macroeconomics, emerging technologies, and corporate finance

Spec Opps Analysts work directly with our senior bankers in small teams with significant responsibility. Day-to-day activities of an Analyst include:

  • Financial analysis and modeling
  • Conducting research and developing expertise on a range of topics
  • Creating and preparing client presentations and written reports
  • Interacting with and presenting to senior executives
  • Helping to manage transactions and projects

Spec Opps Analysts enjoy exposure to and mentorship from Lazard Financial Advisory leadership; the ability to cultivate a diversified investment-banking skillset; opportunities to take on high-impact and highly differentiated assignments; an exceptionally high-talent peer set drawn from a range of backgrounds; and an accelerated development curve.

Candidates should be top academic and professional performers who are willing to work hard in an unstructured environment that values initiative, creativity, maturity, resourcefulness, and enthusiasm for learning. Academic and professional backgrounds may vary, but candidates must be comfortable developing financial skills and enjoy quantitative work.

Preference is for candidates with existing investment banking, investing, or management-consulting experience and who can work out of our New York office.

Successful candidates should have:

  • Exceptional academic performance, intellectual curiosity, creativity, and analytical ability
  • Track record of excellence and impact in high-stakes professional environment(s)
  • Strong interest in investment banking (but no prior background in finance is required)
  • Strong quantitative background and analytical skills coupled with attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal / written communication skills with ability to multi-task
  • Motivation to work as a team player and contribute to a positive team culture
  • Strong project management skills, resourcefulness, and poise under pressure
  • At least two years of professional experience in high-impact role(s)
  • Extraordinary discretion given sensitive nature of assignments
