New Mexico Oncology Hematology Consultants Ltd. is seeking a caring, compassionate, and patient orientated New Patient Coordinator

We are, a freestanding, physician-owned, comprehensive cancer center based in Albuquerque, NM with a satellite clinic in Gallup, New Mexico. We are an Oncology Medical Home, with a focus on early intervention for patient symptoms, resulting in low hospitalization rates. Our Physicians have won Top 10 Docs in the city of Albuquerque multiple times.

As a successful Medical oncology and Radiation oncology practice, we have expanded our medical practice to include Survivorship, palliative care, Primary Care, Rheumatology, Pulmonary, Urology, and ENT.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The New Patient Coordinator is a reflection of NMOHC’s philosophy and dedication to superior healthcare and patient interaction. This position must demonstrate sensitivity and professionalism in all interactions with the patient and/or outside vendors/clients while eliciting critical information for the coordination of patient care. This position is responsible for verbally welcoming new patients into our facility and assisting physicians and patients with special needs and emergency scheduling. Goal is to make referrals easy and convenient for physicians, physician offices, and patients. Essential Functions Statement(s):

  • Verbally introduces and orients all new Medical Oncology patients to NMOHC making everyone feel welcome.
  • Clearly understands the basics of the diseases we treat to provide the right urgency of appointments.
  • Obtains diagnosis and demographic information.
  • Schedules initial patient appointment.
  • Elicits insurance information and verifies eligibility and benefits: enters insurance information into Centricity.
  • Elicits PCP information to initiate and secure referral.
  • Elicits previous testing information to initiate and secure medical records for appointment.
  • Responsible to scan new patient information into OncoEMR.
  • Explains and mails new patient packet for completion prior to check-in.
  • Maintains the accuracy of information in the new patient packet and notebook.
  • Oversees the completion of new patient packets and notebooks.
  • Partners with various staff to assure all new patient scheduling and materials are available and accurate.
  • Relays patient feedback when they struggle to understand the new patient handbook so that improvements can be made.
  • Understands medical records for each disease type.
  • Documents all information in computer and new patient registry.
  • Initiates the retrieval process of all new patient records, including but not limited to transcription, hospital/D/C notes, Labs, Scans, Radiology Reports, X-Rays/Films, biopsy and path reports, etc.; follows through with those requests to ensure chart preps have the records available for the patients initial visit to the facility.
  • Follows through on all Medical Record requests until they are obtained, appropriately scans documents (laboratory, radiology, pathology, pertinent progress note and history).
  • Works collaboratively with Chart Prep so that records are received prior to the patient’s initial visit.
  • Works collaboratively with the Patient Care Coordinators to assure the patient is scheduled appropriately per the physician’s request.
  • Evaluates the referrals, patient needs and timeliness of the new patient scheduling to assure the patient’s needs are met.
  • Schedules clinic tours when requested by a patient.
  • Updates the system accurately when patients change physicians.
  • Reviews Medical Oncology physicians’ schedules routinely to utilize cancellations and coordinates additional new patient opportunities with physicians and patient care coordinators.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Education and Experience:

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Four to ten years related experience
  • Two years experience as a medical scheduler (clinical or surgical) is preferred
  • Oncology experience preferred
  • This position requires a thorough understanding of insurance requirements and exceptional customer service skills
  • Strong multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent customer services skills
  • Must be computer literate and have medical terminology knowledge

Computer Skills:

  • Basic computer skills and ARIA
  • Familiar with computer peripheral equipment

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $1.00 per hour
