Description:
The Network Engineer is under the direction of the Infrastructure Operations Manager and works closely with the IT Staff to support the environment. The primary role of the Engineer is to support and manage the network infrastructure. He or she installs, maintains, and tests network servers, operating system software, hubs, routers, switches, and cables, and works with the IT Staff to develop and implement security protocols to protect organizational data. The Engineer also responds to emergency computer and network requests, maintains work records and network documentation, and performs network updates, upgrades, and configurations. He or she also performs diagnostics and tests, schedules regular network maintenance checks, and prepare network status reports.
He or she must have a passion for learning about technology and business, a natural inclination to engage and take ownership of issues, and an ability to talk both business and technical. A successful Engineer will be able to take complex problems and break them down into smaller pieces, consider the big picture as well as the details, and take input from a multitude of directions.
Job Functions:
  • Support the networking environment by implementing system configuration, documenting, and enforcing system standards.
  • Install and upgrade network hardware and software.
  • Maximize network performance by monitoring performance, troubleshooting network problems and outages, scheduling upgrades, and collaborating with network architects on network optimization; undertake data network fault investigations in local and wide area environments, using information from multiple sources.
  • Securing network systems by enforcing policies and monitoring access.
  • Support and administer firewall environments in line with IT security policy.
  • Report network operational status.
  • Configure routing and switching equipment, e.g., Cisco/Meraki, Fortinet, HPE.
  • Install, monitor, and troubleshoot hosted IP voice services.
  • Configure firewalls, e.g., Cisco/Meraki and Fortinet.
  • Remotely support on-site engineers and end users/customers during installation.
  • Remotely troubleshoot and detect issues during initial installation.
  • Assist in capacity management/audit of IP addressing and hosted devices within data centers.
  • Administer IP load balancing, hardware SSL accelerators, and other software/hardware as necessary.
  • Supports and troubleshoots remote connectivity solutions including site-to-site and remote-access VPN.
  • Monitors security system logs (e.g., intrusion detection system, intrusion prevention system, firewall system logs, etc.) and reports on discovered anomalies or problems (e.g., insufficient disk space, inappropriate access patterns) on a weekly basis.
  • Uses sniffers and other tools to troubleshoot and isolate network problems.
  • Engages in continuous process improvement.
  • Provides rotational 24/7 after-hours support as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
  • AA degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Engineering or other relevant field with healthcare experience a plus.
  • Minimum of 2 years working as a network engineer/admin or related experience.
  • Network certifications a plus.
  • Prior hands-on professional experience must include Windows Operating Systems, firewalls, routers, and switches. Cisco ASA and Firepower, Meraki and/or Linux experience would be a plus.
  • Working knowledge of network security firewalls, intrusion detection prevention systems, authentication mechanisms, and encryption technologies/IPSEC.
  • Knowledge of Security controls, Proxies, SSL VPN, NAC.
  • Knowledge of routing protocols (e.g., HSRP, VRRP, BGP, OSPF).
  • Knowledge of HTTP(S), network protocols such as IP, TCP, UDP, DNS, SMTP, SNMP along with packet analysis.
  • Knowledge of data center and EIA/TIA cabling standards, copper, and fiber optic cabling/interfaces
  • Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic and network analytics tools.
  • Analytical, reasoning, and organizational skills are essential.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills are essential.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with all levels of personnel both internally and externally, e.g., leadership, executives, clients, vendors, and agencies.
  • Ability to work in and constructively contribute to teamwork environment and meet stringent deadlines.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and follow through including the ability to document work.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information is essential.
Physical Skills:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, talk, or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to walk, sit, use hand, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must have the manual dexterity to skillfully operate a computer keyboard and other standard office equipment, such as facsimile and telephone.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Corrected vision in normal range.
