Summary

Direct Volunteer Services for the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) unit of the Public Health Department.

NO MEDICAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.

Maintain records, organizes community programs to recruit, train and retain volunteers.

Grant-funded.


Work schedule:
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends .

RETENTION PAY ($$$) AVAILABLE FOR TARRANT COUNTY EMPLOYEES

Full-time employees
: May be eligible to earn up to 3 retention payments in 2022 totaling $4,900 ($1,000 on August 5th and September 16th, and $2,900 on December 9th.)

Note:
Employees must be employed on each payment date to be eligible.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops volunteer opportunities. As a part of the MRC Board, formulates policies and procedures for training and types of services to be performed by volunteers
  • Collaborates with community organizations and other MRC programs to design and implement volunteer service opportunities
  • Interviews, screens, and refers volunteer applicants to appropriate teams
  • Coordinates training and orientation for volunteers prior to assignment and arranges for required training
  • Coordinates special and ongoing planning and evaluation functions to improve and sustain the MRC
  • Promotes MRC to the community
  • Activates MRC volunteers to participate in drills and other skill building exercises to assure competency of volunteers
  • Maintains database of volunteers including profile of credentials, abilities, and interests
  • Arranges appropriate recognition of volunteers for their services
  • Works with the Department of Public Information Officer to produce and distribute various forms of communication for volunteers
  • Performs all other related duties involved in the operation of the Public Health Department as assigned or required

Minimum Requirements

NOTE: YOU MUST FILL OUT THE WORK HISTORY and EDUCATION SECTIONS OF APPLICATION TO SHOW YOU HAVE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION AS REQUIRED BY HIRING DEPARTMENT OR BE DISQUALIFIED.

TO APPLY , must have an Associate’s degree or higher + Five (5) full-time years of volunteer management, volunteer recruitment, or community outreach work experience with a non-profit organization
OR
TO APPLY , must have a High School diploma or GED + Seven (7) full-time years of volunteer management, volunteer recruitment, or community outreach work experience with a non-profit organization.

TO APPLY, must possess a current and valid Driver License. Note: A Texas driver license is required to hold the position.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experienced in grant writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal departments and external community partners.

Knowledge of emergency preparedness and response. Ability to develop and coordinate trainings.

Must have the ability to work well in a team environment as well as independently.

Ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse socioeconomic and professional backgrounds on all levels including one-on-one and group settings.

Must be organized, have attention to detail, able to multitask, and work under pressure.

Must be proficient in database management and the ability to extract and analyze data to generate reports.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
If hired, must provide proof of educational attainment
at New Hire Processing or during the promotional process.

Tarrant County will conduct background checks on new hires that will include a criminal background check related to convictions and deferred adjudications in the past seven years and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records and educational attainment. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered individually.

Physical Demands and Work Environment & Other Requirements

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, lift, push, and pull.

Regular attendance is essential. Incumbent must arrive at work on time, prepared to perform assigned duties and work assigned schedule. Incumbent must have the ability to work well with others. Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the position without posing a direct threat to the health and safety of themselves and others.
