1st Advantage Federal Credit Union is currently seeking a full-time Mortgage Specialist to support our Mortgage Department. Scheduled hours will be 40 hours per week between the hours of Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with the possible need for evening/weekend work.

The Mortgage Specialist is responsible for processing all second mortgage and home equity lines of credit. This position will disclose preliminary disclosures packages, prepare file for underwriting, and prepare all approved loans for closing.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Request all documents necessary for underwriting decision. Following loan decision, mail preliminary disclosures to members within required time frames.
  • Prepare closing documents for all approved second mortgages and home equity lines of credit and send to branches for closing.
  • Following the loan closing, ensure that all signed loan documentation is collected and verified.
  • Records data on status of loans, including number of new applications, loans approved, cancelled or denied.
  • Retain mortgage file until all final documents are received (i.e., recorded deed of trust, insurance information and title paperwork).
  • Post all closed loans following regulatory requirements.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Prepare approved or denied letters and forward to originating branch for distribution to the members.

Performance Measurements:

1. Retrieve mortgage data and request any additional information needed within 24-hours of loan
input.
2. Prepare files for underwriting within 1 day following the receipt of all required documents.
3. Notify branch personnel of loan status following receipt of underwriter's decision within the
same business day of decision.
4. To maintain a working knowledge of all second mortgage products.
5. To provide informed, professional, and accurate service and support to all members and
colleagues.
6. Produce loan documents and reports within a timely fashion with zero errors.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • 1 to 3 years of similar or related experience.
  • A minimum education of either a 2-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or (3) Completion of a specialized and extensive in-house training or apprenticeship program.
  • Interpersonal Skills - courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office products to include Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Knowledge of mortgage software products preferred.
  • Knowledge of Lending Regulations required.

Physical Requirements:
TALKING: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instruction ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.
AVERAGE HEARING: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
FINGER DEXTERITY: Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.
REPETITIVE MOTION: Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
AVERAGE VISUAL ABILITIES: Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products or operate machinery.
PHYSICAL STRENGTH: Exerts up to 40 lbs. of force occasionally (moving boxes of promotional items, event marketing).
ABILITY TO OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE: Ability to operate a motor vehicle with no restrictions. Employee must maintain a valid active license and insurance policy.
