Job Description

Middle School Secretary/Receptionist

Title: Middle School Secretary/Receptionist
Unit: Benjamin Middle School
Reports to: Building Principal
Supervisory Role: None

Summary:
Provide administrative assistance to the building administration and school-site staff; maintain the financial records of students and site transactions; convey information regarding school functions and procedures; ensure compliance with site’s financial, legal and administrative requirements and support a broad array of services.

Contract:
Ten months, 2 weeks prior to the start of the school year and week after the close of the school year. 7.5 hours on all work days.

Education and Related Work Experience:
Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Associates or Bachelor’s degrees are preferred. Successful experience as a school secretary or related field is preferred.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Work effectively in a team environment
  • Demonstrate positive interpersonal skills in working with students, parents, staff, community members and outside agencies
  • Effectively perform a wide range of secretarial/clerical duties, including records management, preparation of reports and documentation processes within the school environment
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple pressing tasks in a timely, accurate and efficient manner
  • Effectively adapt to changing situations within the workplace
  • Ability to to work and communicate effectively with students, parents, community members, staff and external groups such as government agencies.
  • Ability to and willingness to utilize and adapt to current and changing technologies as required.
  • Ability to apply knowledge, experience and commitment in the areas of race relations, cross-cultural understanding and human rights
  • Ability to maintain and promote confidentiality as the normDesire and ability to engage in continuing education and professional development
  • Accept increasing responsibility as delegated by the principal
  • Coordinates assigned programs and activities (e.g. student registration, attendance)
  • Evaluates situations involving staff, students, parents and the public and takes appropriate action and/or directs to the appropriate personnel for resolution
  • Handles funds and processes monies in compliance with district policies

  • Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, multi-function machines, email, calendars, etc.
