Position Title: MEO Flood Control Worker / Maintenance Worker

Department: DPW- Water Pollution Control

Employment Status Non-Exempt; Full-Time, UFCW Labor

Salary: Grade 5L, Step 5, minimum starting pay $17.43 per hour (plus license incentives)

Certifications/Licenses: Valid CDL-B Permit with air brakes (Required) MA CDL-B License with air brakes desired or must obtain within one (1) year.

SUMMARY

The City of Chicopee’s Department of Public Works - Water Pollution Control Division is hiring a MEO Flood Control Worker who has the primary responsibility of maintaining and repairing property of municipality by performing the following duties. Overtime, Holidays, and weekend work required.

SOME ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE

Receives Written work orders or verbal instructions.

• Operates pumps, motors, and electrical equipment, power tools, mowers tractors, motor vehicles.
• Operate, clean, repair, lubricate, and paint, pumps, drives, gates, mowers, buildings, and vehicles.
• Building and grounds upkeep. Mowing of steeply sloped dike system. Purchase supplies according to established procedures.
• Adhere to all safety requirements.
• Cleans buildings, washes windows, and empties trash cans. Paints interior and exterior of buildings including but not limited to walls, railings, and trim.
• Drives truck and loads fallen tree limbs and roadside trash onto truck and delivers refuse to landfill. Operates snow removal equipment to maintain streets, sidewalks, and driveways.
• Reads meters and records reading in logbook.
• Replaces worn or damaged parts such as hoses, wiring, and belts, in machines, and mower.
• Works as needed in the DPW-Public Utilities Division. May be required to bring sludge to compost facility.
• Performs all related duties to properly operate and maintain the flood protection system.

QUALIFICATIONS

To be minimally qualified for this position, one must meet the following criteria:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• MA CDL-B Permit with air brakes required. MA CDL-B License with air brakes desired or must obtain within one year of hire date, candidates who already hold the desired MA CDL B License with air brakes will receive preference.
• Previous experience with pumps and motors desired.

SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION

This is a full-time, 40-hour work week position. The schedule is Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM. This position requires availability for Overtime, Holidays and weekends when required.

This role is classified as Grade 5L, Step 5, with a minimum starting payof$17.43 per hour (plus license incentives) with periodic step and pay increases upon continuous completion of employment with the City of Chicopee.
