The Medical Coder is responsible for reviewing procedure codes and diagnosis codes for accuracy in all areas of services rendered by PCHC. The Medical Coder identifies errors in coding and initiates correction. Tasks are performed to insure PCHC accurate collection of reimbursement.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Posts claims from EHR system.to Intergy billing production.
• Reviews for completeness and accuracy all encounters created by patient visits for all departments in all areas of services rendered.
• Verifies that assignment of International Classification of Diseases (ICD), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT), & Healthcare Common Procedural Coding (HCPC) codes are compatible and accurate for billing by using reference materials to include code manuals and correct coding initiatives.
• Access the EHR to abstract and interpret clinical data from the patient’s EHR to verify appropriateness of ICD, CPT, & HCPC code.
• Interpret medical terminology in order to comprehend translation in EHR.

Qualifications:

• Ability to gain proficiency in PCHC’s Practice Management and EHR software.
• Proficient in Medical Terminology.
• Strong multi-tasking skills and consistent attention to detail
• Demonstrates respect, dignity, understanding and sensitivity to individual’s concerns.
• Demonstrates professional conduct by appropriate communications, respect and courtesy to individuals.
• Support the Organization’s mission., vision and values as it relates to customer satisfaction in all interactions.
• Access to reliable transportation
• 1-3 years experience in the medical coding field preferred.
• ( This is a billing qualification)Proficiency in Microsoft office - Word and Outlook required.
• Experience working with Greenway Intergy preferred but not required
• Ability to work in a fast paced clinical environment where the early emphasis will be on Pediatric dentistry.

Education:

• High School diploma or equivalent required, and completion of a medical coding program.
• Certified Professional Coder with AAPC (American Academy of Professional Coders; CPC-A or AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association).
