Job description

We believe aircraft should fly themselves. Automated aviation systems will enable a future where air transportation is safer, more convenient and fundamentally transformative to the way goods — and eventually people — move around the planet. We are a team of mission-driven engineers with experience across aerospace, robotics and self-driving cars working to make this future a reality.

As a Mechanical Test Engineer at Reliable Robotics, you will be a part of the Mechanical Engineering team. This is a small team of highly motivated people designing, testing, and flying advanced mechanical systems. We’re looking for a broadly experienced individual that combines the fields of mechanical, electrical, and software engineering to help us develop our mechanical testing operation. This is a clean slate opportunity to grow our primitive bench testing into a production worthy operation. We need you to break our development hardware, identify root causes, and help redesign it. We need you to design automated acceptance test stands to identify manufacturing flaws. The position will be located at our facility in Mountain View, California, reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Manager.
Responsibilities

  • Break our hardware, help root cause the failure modes, and improve the designs
  • Design mechanical test stands to replicate extreme flight conditions on our hardware (functional, structural, fatigue, and environmental)
  • Architect the command/control and data acquisition systems for development and production test operations
  • Specify, source, and integrate required instrumentation
  • Automate the repetitive aspects of the test stands
  • Document test results for development, certification, and production efforts
  • Bring a sense of humility, and be ready to both teach and learn

Basic Success Criteria

  • 3+ years of related experience
  • BS Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Software Engineering, or equivalent industry experience
  • Eagerness to learn and teach; help us grow as both a development and production operation
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals
  • Experience with software scripting and execution, preferably Python
  • Working knowledge of measurement and data analysis
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems
  • Eagerness for hands-on work - building data acquisition and control systems, building harnesses, integration of mechanical systems, etc.

Preferred Criteria

  • 3+ years experience in aerospace test planning and execution
  • Previous experience with aerospace environmental testing
  • Ability to design and build the data acquisition system from the ground up
  • Experience with test automation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in hiring and building great test teams

Must be willing to travel up to 10% of the time.

The estimated salary range for this position is $103,000 to $151,000. At Reliable Robotics, we strive to provide competitive and rewarding compensation based on experience and expertise, as well as market conditions, location, and pay equity.

In addition to base compensation, Reliable Robotics offers stock options, employee medical, 401k contribution, great co-workers and a casual work environment.
