R&D Mechanical Engineer I – Advanced Surgical

This Mechanical Engineer will be a critical member of our Advanced Surgical division's R&D team, based in Denver, CO. The engineer will have immediate opportunities to contribute to new product development with a focus on minimally invasive surgical technologies designed to deliver real benefits to surgeons, hospitals and their patients.

Responsibilities:

  • Work in all phases of design, development, component procurement, assembly, test, validation, and manufacturing support

  • Complete conceptual designs, detailed designs, CAD modeling, prototyping, and troubleshooting

  • Conduct design analyses including theoretical calculations for component fit and tolerance analysis and stress calculations

  • Regularly interfaces with key stakeholders, such as quality, regulatory, marketing, manufacturing, and purchasing, to drive closure of engineering projects

  • Develop written protocols, reports and presentations related to design activities

  • Perform verification and validation testing

  • Manage engineering changes through CONMED’s quality management system

  • Adhere to project schedule with delivery of work products

  • May lead a high performance, cross-functional project team to deliver new products

  • Additional responsibilities may include cost reduction redesign of products and solving design and manufacturing problems on existing product line

As a CONMED Mechanical Engineer I, you will have accountability and ownership of one or more projects. Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (or highly related field)

  • 0-3+ years engineering work experience; preference placed on experience/knowledge of medical device design and development

  • Proficiency in 3-D CAD software such as SolidWorks or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of designing for manufacturing, such as injection molding, and assembly

  • Prior experience as a project leader

  • Experience with using GD&T fundamentals

  • Experience with FEA / CFD tools and knowledge of electrical principles

Up to 10% of expected travel.

Disclosure as required by applicable law, the annual salary range for this position is 62,000 to 93,000. The actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, education, and skill level. The salary range is CONMED’s good faith belief at the time of this posting.
