Part Time Position Approx. 20 hours per week. Day time hours.

Summary: Work with engineers to design, develop, test, and manufacture parts used in fire suppression systems.

Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Utilizing CAD software (SolidWorks), design and develop new products using industry best practices, rapid prototyping, design for manufacturability & assembly (DFMA), design to value (DTV), and mechanical reverse engineering.
  • Independently and/or collaboratively prepare models, sketches, complete drawing packages, technical documents, procedures, manuals, and sales related documents.
  • Following established procedures and best practices, process new engineering documents and revise existing drawings, procedures, and BOM's through the Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process.
  • Review engineered drawings utilizing DTV, DFMA, and Tolerance Stack-up methodologies while ensuring accuracy and completeness with emphasis on compliance to company standards and the most current ASME Dimensioning and Tolerancing Standards (ASME Y14.5M etc.).
  • Provide support to Manufacturing, Machine Shop, and Assembly departments during the manufacturing process for all products.
  • Provides CADD support and assistance to engineers and designers as required.
  • Inspect and analyze parts utilizing micrometers, rulers, gauges, calipers, and other measuring devices. Ensure part conformance to engineered drawing/specification requirements.

Desired Characteristics

  • Demonstrated strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Experience with written technical specifications, validation test procedures and reports.
  • Working knowledge of fabrication processes, equipment, assembly techniques, and tooling.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling, CAD assembly, and CAD drawing creation tools.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks and all MS Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Value engineering/Value analysis skills & experience is a plus.
  • Experience in Adobe Illustrator is a plus.

Education/Experience:

Associate Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology (emphasis on CAD & Engineering Design Processes) or higher plus 2 years of experience.

Related experience and/or training may substitute for education.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
