SCHEDULE: 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week) SHIFT: Mixed with rotating weekends.


POSITION SUMMARY: This position assists in nursing care and preparation of surgical patients by performance of routine and delegated duties according to standards and policies of the hospital and department. Performs scrub duties and related procedures. Performs housekeeping duties as necessary and assists in maintenance of all supplies. Provides assistance in emergency procedures as well as elective and scheduled. Assists in preparation, transportation and supervision of patient.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

One year OR hospital experience preferred.


LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Current OR Surgical Tech Certification preferred


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Graduate of approved OR technician training program


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:


  • Maintains knowledge of sterile techniques.

  • Demonstrates working knowledge of surgical instruments and equipment.

  • Assists the Registered Nurse in preparing the environment and the patient for each assigned case.

  • Assists the surgeon during each case by providing requested/required equipment, instruments, medications, supplies, etc. during and after procedure.

  • Works with Registered Nurse and paramedical staff to maintain an environment that is clean, safe and adequately stocked with sterile and non-sterile supplies.

  • Demonstrates competence in clinical knowledge, skill required and technology of the department employed in the care of the patients in the unit.

  • Takes call as scheduled on weekdays, weekends and holidays.

  • Organizes in preparation of end of case clean up and assists in clean up.

  • Demonstrates ability to identify medical/mechanical emergency situations and to respond appropriately in a calm and efficient manner.

  • Teaches new personnel willingly.

  • Acts as a role model through professional manner and conduct as demonstrated trough cooperative interpersonal relationships. Problem solving and assisting with teaching and training new and present staff members.

  • Displays initiative in increasing skills, observes procedures and seeks to improve expertise.

  • Treats all people with respect and is responsive to their needs.

  • Acts as a role model demonstrating a humanistic approach towards and among customers serving as a positive image of West Hills Hospital and Medical Center.

  • Solicits and responds appropriately to all customer feedback in a timely fashion.

  • Supports and ensures provision of patient’s Bill of Rights.

  • Demonstrates professional behavior while in the workplace.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

  • Must abide by the HCA Code of Conduct and the West Hills Hospital and Medical Center Standards of Behavior.
