Job description

The Materials Manager works under the supervision of the Administrator/Director of Nursing and is responsible for maintaining adequate supplies for the daily operation of the center. This position involves significant interaction with vendors, physicians and staff on a daily basis. It also involves scheduling of time in order to meet the weekly ordering schedule for supplies.

The ideal materials manager will also be well versed and able to participate in the Surgical Technologist role as needed.

I. POSITION DUTIES

1. Inventory Control: Determines adequate levels of each item to be kept in inventory, maintains that level by ordering supplies in a timely manner and processes the order with office personnel to insure payment.

2. Communication: Processes good telephone skills and interacts well with vendors, physicians and staff.

3. Quality Improvement: Works to provide the Center with the best product at the lowest cost. Returns substandard items to vendors.

4. Maintains overall operation of the supply room

a. Determines levels of items to be kept in stock and maintains these levels

b. Orders all supplies from vendors

c. Receives, verifies order, and places supplies in stock as they arrive

d. Rotates supplies when stocking supply room

e. Checks supplies for outdated items

f. Maintains accurate records of supplies ordered and received

g. Works to provide inventory on a regular basis

h. Removes recall items from inventory

i. Packages items to be returned to vendors

j. Performs other duties as needed to ensure the safety and comfort of all patients as well as the efficient operation of the facility

5. Works well with staff nurses to make available special items needed for surgical cases

6. Works with office personnel to ensure expedient payment of invoices

7. Works with Administrator/Director of Nursing on pricing and negotiation of supplies for cost effective purchases while maintaining quality
