JELD-WEN is currently seeking a Materials Manager to join our growing team.


Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Plant Manager, the Materials Manager is responsible for managing, or assisting in the management of materials planning, materials control, materials strategy, production scheduling, and all material project initiatives associated with the applicable JELD-WEN product line at the facility they are located. This position is also a key team player associated with Lean Six-Sigma and Continuous Improvements (CI) strategies, as well as SQDCI, TPS, JIT, and OTD in the plant.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Manages the material control functions in the plant including master scheduling, plant floor control, inventory planning and control, purchasing, MRO crib, packing operations and shipping with focus and direction on Continuous Improvements (CI) and SQDCI activities and initiatives in their plant/facility.
  • Manages the planning and establishment of production schedules, monitoring of material inventories, tracking the progress of production and reviewing factors which affect production schedules and mitigate negative impacts to same.
  • Manage suppliers, materials and inventory in a manner consistent with the requirements of a Lean Six-Sigma, JIT, and OTD manufacturing environment.
  • Manages the purchasing and inventory control functions. Provides support to production scheduling on all material flow issues to meet production schedules and customer requirements, and Continuous Improvement strategies.
  • Works with Corporate Materials Manager (CMM) to ensure plant/customer needs are met, coordinating shipping efforts with those of internal/external suppliers.
  • Maintains optimum inventory levels to insure on-time deliveries to meet customer requirements while maximizing turns, minimizing carrying costs and premium transportation charges by utilizing JIT and OTD strategies.
  • Works with Procurement, Corporate support teams, vendors and suppliers to negotiate and purchase products based on anticipated manufacturing needs in order to achieve the lowest total cost and highest total quality, while ensuring accurate cost and receipt of products in a production environment.
  • Works with Sourcing and Supply Chain Departments, Continuous Improvement Managers/Teams, and R&D involving new materials, suppliers, and processes to achieve the best possible quality, reliability, prices, continuity and delivery.
  • Works with Corporate to ensure that the manufacturing facility they are located at comply with corporate policies associated with vendor agreements.
  • Establish and maintain material purchase plan allocations and pricing data within the appropriate JELD-WEN systems. Issue purchase orders and manage and rectify price discrepancies on invoices with Accounts Payable.
  • Works with R&D, Continuous Improvement Managers and teams involving new materials, suppliers, and processes to achieve the best possible quality, reliability, prices, continuity and delivery in accordance with corporate KPI’s.
  • Comply with all corporate JELD-WEN Purchasing policies and procedures with regards to the materials procurement process.
  • Monitors and/or conducts Performance Evaluations of staff as needed.
  • May perform other or specified duties as directed by the Plant Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Management, Sourcing, Business Administration, Accounting, Engineering or a related field and at least five (5) years of Materials Management experience preferred. An MBA in a relevant field is desired.
  • An Associate’s Degree and seven (7) to (10) years of experience in Materials Management, or related field, in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the window and door industry, may be substituted for a Bachelor’s Degree at the discretion of management.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the Degrees at the discretion of management.
  • American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) certification a huge plus. Fundamental understanding of ISM.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all levels of the hierarchy, as well as problem solving and negotiation skills are necessary.
  • A minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience is desired for the position.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, ERP, MRP, and applicable JELD-WEN Materials Management Software, including experience in generating and analyzing statistical forecasts using spreadsheets and other forecasting tools.
  • Excellent managerial skills, including the ability to motivate, coach, develop and provide continuous feedback and appraisal of subordinate employees.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing process improvement techniques including Lean manufacturing processes and Continuous Improvement (CI) methodologies, as well as SQDCI, TPS, JIT, and OTD goals and objectives needed.
  • Must excel in multi-tasking and have demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team player and possess excellent leadership skills.
  • The ability to drive process and CI’s to enhance and streamline planning, purchasing, and raw material inventory management.
  • Knowledge of Lab/OSHA, and health and safety standards and compliance.
