Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer

What we’re looking for:

We are looking for an ambitious engineering professional eager to grow with an industry leader. The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for supporting all areas of manufacturing to improve safety, quality, and productivity. They will collaborate with and work in support of operations to achieve Key Performance Indicators’ and company goals. They will identify process improvement initiatives using lean manufacturing methods, six sigma, and other problem solving tools.

The Manufacturing Engineer will perform engineering tasks related to process time standards, capacity, capital projects and process design. This role will interface directly with all levels of manufacturing and product engineering and be responsible for process improvements and controls, machine capacity/capability, equipment selection, and adherence to procedures and quality standards.

The Manufacturing Engineer will troubleshoot manufacturing equipment issues, assist in design of meaningful and accurate performance measurement systems to increase productivity, develop process documentation, improve process flow, and maintain the plant layout in AutoCAD.

What you’ll be responsible for in this role:

  • Evaluate and develop innovative solutions to engineering and manufacturing production problems which will include conducting process analysis, applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, materials, and conferring with suppliers.
  • Maintain Standard Work, and work instructions to communicate manufacturing requirements to production personnel.
  • Design and prepare concept drawings and implement new equipment, prototypes or modifications to existing equipment.
  • Evaluate capital equipment needs, prepare business case and commission.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement change to current manufacturing processes by analyzing production, labor standards, and material cost, reviewing production schedules, and estimating future requirements.
  • Analyze and plan work force utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and design layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, equipment layout and establishing and implementing Design For Manufacture (DFM) plans
  • Conduct make-vs-buy analysis of components of the existing product
  • Assure product and process quality by design testing methods, testing finished product and process capabilities, and establishing standards to confirm and validate manufacturing process requirements.
  • Determine root cause of failures using statistical methods (e.g. design of experiment, statistical process control) that may result in changes in design, tolerances, or processing methods.
  • Assist in hardware prototyping and tooling.
  • Evaluate and correct safety and ergonomics issues with machines, tooling, and production processes.
  • Coordinate and support new product introduction, and line extensions
  • Assist and lead manufacturing lean exercises.
  • Provides design input to the New Product Development (NPD) and Design to Value (DTV) engineering teams to ensure optimal manufacturability
  • Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods
  • Addition duties as required

What are the basic qualifications?

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Engineering, Mechanical, Industrial or Electrical.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in manufacturing engineering

  • Ability to demonstrated project management skills, statistical aptitude, strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and SolidWorks
  • Knowledge of lean techniques
  • Basic knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Self-starter, ability to manage projects independently with little to no supervision
  • Provide accurate and timely project progress and results tracking
  • Strong project management, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to effectively problem-solve using problem solving tools and techniques (A3, fishbone, root cause, 5-Whys)
  • Support project leaders (A3/PDCA, DMAIC etc.) to build capability, deliver cost savings, and create a culture of discipline.
  • Coordinate and support new product introduction, and line extensions.
