Position Summary:

Vallen’s On-site Tech Services Manager- Rental and Turnaround is a staff management position residing at and supervising a single, on-site customer service center and is 100% billable. They are responsible for overseeing daily activities and performance for a team of Service Technicians and are responsible for ensuring the quality of work provided to the customer meets and/or exceeds Vallen’s contract and the customer’s service level agreement. The number of associates typically assigned to the on-site supervisor may vary from 3-20 associates. On-site Tech Service Managers are responsible for ensuring assigned team members are properly trained and are working in compliance with Vallen standard operating procedures, company policies, and customer specifications. They make day-to-day decisions regarding work assignments and under management guidance, have some authority for personnel actions.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs staff supervisory duties for assigned team of Service Technicians; responsibilities include but are not limited to interviewing, selecting, hiring, coaching, training, counseling, delegating work assignments and disciplining associates while enforcing company policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
  • Acts as the liaison between Vallen Safety Services and the customer; interfaces and collaborates with the customer for coordination of work requests and desired job activities.
  • Reviews and approves all labor times reported by assigned technicians.
  • Demonstrates awareness of profitability and utilization rates, cash flow, and other company metrics.
  • Continually looks for process and/or cost savings improvement opportunities at the client and collaborates with the client on desired service offerings.
  • Performs and/or oversees safety and technical audits.
  • Schedules and performs quality inspections.
  • Accountable for asset management and protection
  • Accountable for client facility protection.
  • Ensures all documentation for work requests and assignments are filled out accurately, completely and submitted for proper invoicing; ensures required copies are provided to the customer upon servicing equipment.
  • Maintains accurate inventories related to job and maintenance orders.
  • May be required to respond to emergency field calls and/or assist with parts and equipment requests in absence of a technician.
  • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of all regulatory standards i.e., State, OSHA, and NFPA regulations, Manufacturer guidelines and VSS SOP’s; always exhibits safe work practices.
  • Accountable for appropriately using and/or overseeing the use of various company provided assets which may include but are not limited to company vehicle, inventory, safety equipment, laptop, LSI scanner, test equipment, tools, radio, cell phone, fuel card and/or credit card.

Job Qualifications:

  • High School or GED
  • Bachelor’s in related field of study or
  • 6+ years of applicable direct experience
  • 5+ Current Certifications (manufacturer/state) in a fire protection related field
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Advance communication, initiative, and problem-solving skills
  • Specific – RELEVENT experienceIn-depth experience inspecting, testing, maintaining, and repairing Life Safety Equipment.

Demonstrated ability to repair and service equipment sold by Vallen.
Current motor vehicle license with a good driving record; Commercial Driver License (CDL) required if transporting loads of hazardous materials.
Demonstrated proficiency with hand tools.
Demonstrated ability and/or competencies to manage a team successfully.
Demonstrated positive customer service and the ability to manage multiple customer accounts.
Demonstrated advanced computer skills.
Must be able to read, write and comprehend English.

Staff Management Responsibilities:

Direct management of a department, section, unit or group involving responsibility for results in terms of cost, methods and personnel. Full accountability for hiring, discipline, discharge, performance appraisals, salary administration, etc.

  • May be required to complete continuing education courses as required to keep all certifications and licenses current; if applicable, may be required to pass all test requirements for approval to work offshore.

  • Ability to work in dusty conditions.
  • May work in hazardous environments and be required to follow safety precautions and use or wear appropriate safety equipment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, and walk.
  • Must have the ability to walk at a regular pace for up to 15 continuous minutes. Must be able to work from a standing position for 8-10 hours.
  • Must be able to bend, climb, and stoop as needed for access of equipment to repair and service.
  • The employee may be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 pounds.
  • Must have the ability to climb stairwells up to 15 high.
  • Must have the ability to ascend and descend ladders (step, extension, case) up to 24’ high.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus
