Northrop Grumman’s Employee Communications team seeks a savvy Communications manager who is a confident strategic advisor, has experience leading and developing people, thrives on the challenge of informing and inspiring employees around business priorities and culture, and constantly seeks to improve through disciplined measurement, analysis and adjustment. This position reports to the Employee Communications director.

This is a hybrid position located in Linthicum, Maryland, with a need to travel up to 10% of the time.


In this job, you’ll:

  • Lead a diverse team of Employee and Executive Communications professionals who are informing and inspiring employees and driving business priorities within the company’s Mission Systems sector.

  • Serve as a partner and trusted advisor to executive leaders, providing insights, perspective and counsel on communications strategies and issues.

  • Help manage the sector president’s communications plan, including developing and measuring talking points, speeches, video scripts, employee announcements and executive summaries. In partnership with others, lead and/or oversee content and logistics for the sector president’s events, including virtual and in person webcasts, town halls, site visits, conferences and ceremonies.

  • Influence and oversee the development, implementation and measurement of complex employee, executive, culture and change communications strategies, plans and tactics. This role requires the ability to interpret business initiatives and translate themes in a simple, compelling way for diverse audiences across the sector and company.

  • Drive continuous improvement of communications plans, tactics and processes through disciplined measurement, analysis and adjustment. Be an advocate for measurement within your team. Support your team in interpreting metrics and insight into actionable intelligence for the organization.

  • Partner with the enterprise Communications team in implementing enterprise-wide employee campaigns within the sectors, ensuring all communications strategies and tactics are consistent with the company’s strategic vision and reflect the Northrop Grumman brand. Also, partner with the enterprise to provide an informed perspective on the sector environment, priorities, issues and opportunities that ladder to enterprise priorities.

  • Be a storyteller – identify captivating story opportunities, conceptualize and oversee teammates responsible for foraging and producing a diverse collection of inspirational content that supports our business goals and Communications objectives.

  • Serve as a key leader and information liaison during emergencies that impact sector employees.

  • Are curious, analytical and willing to challenge the status quo to propose and pilot new, creative solutions, tools and technologies—using strategic rationale and business need to build your case.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism or a related field and a minimum of 10 years of experience OR a Master's degree in prior fields and 8 years of experience.

  • Experience in employee and executive communications .

  • Experience managing people.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong judgement, problem solving and organizational skills, and superb attention to detail.

  • Proficient in Associated Press Style.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, SharePoint, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in media, public relations, brand or marketing, digital communications or community relations is preferred.

  • Communications and leadership experience working with a large, matrixed and/or geographically dispersed organization.

  • Experience working with senior-level executives in industry or government.

  • Experience with communications tools, including website content management systems and other digital communications tools.

  • International relations, global business experience is a plus.

  • Analytical skills and ability to spot trends.

  • Active security clearance is a plus.

  • Familiarity with the Adobe Suite of products and a basic understanding of HTM is a plus.

  • Experience producing omni-channel editorial content for a newspaper, news channel, video, magazine or other venue.



Salary Range: $116,600 USD - $175,000 USD


Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
