ROLE SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Advocacy and Stakeholder Relations, the Manager of Advocacy and Community Engagement is responsible for managing advocacy strategies, community engagement initiatives and relationship building efforts with key educational partners across the Alliance network. The Manager will play an essential role in helping to deepen connections with the communities served across the region. They will support local and statewide advocacy actions that promote educational partner engagement, voice and visibility on issues connected to our school communities. This is an ideal opportunity for a dynamic, experienced, creative, and thoughtful leader, with deep organizing and/or political experience, who can manage multiple advocacy initiatives and build strong, lasting systems to support them.


WHAT YOU WILL DO

Advocacy

  • Launch advocacy campaigns & training sessions across the network.
  • Plan and lead network events for educational partners that are centered on advocacy and activism & deepen awareness on statewide legislative policies.
  • Work with school-site leaders to identify and build a base of educational partner leaders that can be activated to participate in local actions and statewide campaigns.
  • Help to identify, enlist and lead issue-based working groups to leverage the voices, experiences and the support of key educational partners on strategic plans and issues that impact charter school students and families locally and across the state and country.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Advocacy and Stakeholder Relations to identify and work with community partners and elected officials to bring resources to our school communities.

Driving Scholar Outcomes Through Collective Voices

  • Manage and execute the logistics of the School Site Advisory Councils while effectively engaging educational partners and gathering authentic input.
  • Provide on-site, tiered support to school-based staff to improve educational partner engagement and other structures that will amplify scholar, family and staff voice.
  • Provide support with some compliance initiatives, including Federal Program Monitoring, Local Control and Accountability Plans, Charter Renewal, or Oversight.

Project Management and Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Manage projects across multiple teams while successfully generating buy in from educational partners and communicating effectively.
  • Collect, organize, analyze, and report data from across the organization with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Identify trends in data to construct meaningful analyses and clearly articulate strong, written narratives of both success and improvement.
  • Manage and maintain the data system to track all educational partner touchpoints and engagements.

Team Collaboration

  • In coordination with the Vice President of Public Affairs and the Director of Advocacy and Stakeholder Relations, help manage an annual communications plan for Alliance educational partners that informs and inspires them to participate in Alliance advocacy efforts.
  • In coordination with the Communications team, develop communications pieces and training materials, as well as lead training as needed.
  • Create, maintain and share project plans for areas of responsibility; leverage the shared team Google drive for collaboration with colleagues and organizational systems tracking.
  • Attend and maintain a consistent presence in meetings with local charter partners & other CMOs.
  • Serve as a point of contact for fielding and addressing educational partner questions, concerns and feedback to help establish strong ties among our school communities.

Other duties as assigned

  • Support the Director of Advocacy and Stakeholder Relations with organizational strategies and initiatives as required.

  • Experience planning and facilitating meetings, identifying community needs, working with community leaders and volunteers of diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Be an active leader and learner.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 3 years of professional work experience and a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university; OR
  • At least 5 years of professional work experience in advocacy or community engagement efforts and a HS Diploma or equivalent (e.g. G.E.D.)
  • Fluent bilingual English-Spanish ability is preferred.
  • Work schedule may include occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Travel throughout Los Angeles is required; valid driver's license and automobile available for daily use.

WORK LOCATION

This position will work from a home office in the greater Los Angeles area, with travel to school sites. The successful candidate will be given a $400 work from home set-up allowance and receive a monthly stipend of $100.


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

In alignment with our commitment to equity for our scholars, Alliance is committed to equity and transparency for our team and offers competitive salaries commensurate with experience as well as generous retirement and health benefits. This position is exempt/nonexempt

  • Compensation: Alliance provides a competitive salary. Based on relevant prior work experience, our salary range for this role is $69,010-$95,790.
  • Health Insurance: Medical, dental, and vision plans options that are covered at 100% of monthly premiums for individual employees and at least $1,000 per month towards family plan premiums.
  • Retirement: Alliance Home Office employees are eligible for a retirement allowance equal to 7.5% of their regular yearly earnings.
  • Paid Leave: Regular full-time 12-month employees accrue vacation at a rate of 10 hours/month for a maximum of 180 hours in addition to 10 national holidays as well as a week for Spring Break and a week for Winter Break.
  • Professional Development: At Alliance, we believe in supporting staff growth and development. Home Office staff are allocated $500 per year for professional development expenses.
