Job Summary

Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing utility systems, emergency systems and the physical environment of the buildings of Grays Harbor County Public Hospital District No. 1. Must be able to use independent judgment in assessing problems and devising work methods. Will be available for emergency/on-call as needed.


Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Follow all established safety procedures and precautions when performing maintenance services.
  • Maintain general facility and ensure a safe, clean and orderly environment that will enable hospital to achieve its purpose and standards of patient care.
  • Report all accidents/incidents, no matter how minor, and all unsafe/hazardous conditions, defective equipment, etc. to Facilities Manager immediately.
  • Receive and follow maintenance schedule/instructions from Manager as outlined in maintenance policies and procedures.
  • Perform routine maintenance on facility and equipment including plumbing, plastering, painting, electrical, carpentry, mechanical, etc.
  • Perform routine maintenance on grounds, parking areas, driveways, etc. by cutting, trimming, policing, sweeping, and otherwise instructed or directed.
  • Ensure functionality of all lights on property; inside and outside the facility.
  • Service heating and cooling units/systems as specified by the manufacturer and in compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Perform unscheduled maintenance tasks as directed.
  • Meet with department personnel on a regular basis to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas or improvements.
  • Attend and participate in in-services education classes and on-the-job training programs as required.
  • Assure that work areas are clean and that equipment, tools and supplies are properly stored away before leaving areas on break or end of work day.
  • Perform floor maintenance, including using machine to strip wax and reapplication of wax.
  • Ensure that all established safety rules are followed at all times.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Degree from a Technical Institute or College/University concerning general maintenance or mechanics, preferred.
  • Three years of wide-scale, comprehensive maintenance experience, preferred.

Required Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations

  • Current, valid driver license, required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong problem-solving and organization skills; ability to effectively prioritize work.
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and on-task during emergencies, high-volume or stressful times.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing workloads, locations, and/or task assignments.
  • Professional and effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to identify and employ communication strategies appropriate to the audience and demonstrate sensitivity to others emotional, social and mental health needs.
  • Able to use practical application of “Shop Math” like fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion, slide rule, algebra and geometric constructions.
  • Ability to identify and help to resolve problems that may arise such as mistakes, costly waste of supplies, misuse of equipment, etc.
  • Able to interpret and comprehend floor plans, blueprints, and technical manuals.
  • Possess the ability to seek out new methods and principals and be willing to incorporate them into existing maintenance practices.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and utilizing technology to track work orders.

This is a union position with a pay range of $20.66 - $28.83 per hour depending on experience.

Schedule: Full Time, M-F, 8am-4:30pm
