Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION:
Maintenance Mechanics are primarily responsible for performing preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting equipment, equipment modifications, upkeep of buildings, facilities and properties.

JOB DIMENSIONS:
Performs all tasks in a safe manner and complies with all safety rules and policies including those for PPE use.
Understands and implements standard operating procedures related to the repair and modification of plant facilities including but not limited to; production equipment, instrumentation, office equipment and plant physical facilities.
Performs welding, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and other trade functions.
Orders, receives and stores spare parts, maintains plant spare parts inventory systems.
Assists in trouble-shooting equipment problems.
Reviews the maintenance work lists/ work order lists and carries out all job assignments.
Completes all preferred maintenance logs and maintenance forms paperwork
Follows plant preventative maintenance programs and mechanical integrity programs
Performs instrument calibrations as desired
Paints and labels piping, vessels, and areas of the building as instructed.
Maintains the grounds surrounding the plant by cutting weeds, trimming bushes, picking up trash, etc.
Follows all safety procedures in the containing and cleaning up of any small ( 5 gallons) spills of hazardous materials.
Assists production, shipping receiving when needed and assists all other departments to ensure overall plant performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Helps ensure a place of employment that is free from recognized hazards by performing all job functions in a safe and prudent manner, complying with all applicable loss control related regulations, complying with the Company’s loss control policy, and reporting unsafe conditions, work-related accidents, injuries or illnesses to Loss Control or to the immediate supervisor. Reviews the work area for potential losses and loss control opportunities and reports them to Loss Control or to the immediate supervisor.
Properly uses and maintains personal protective equipment, when provided by the supervisor or Loss Control or desired under applicable regulations.
Perform safe work practices to provide for the control of hazards during maintenance operations including but not limited to lockout/tagout; confined space entry; hot work as necessary, per 29 CFR 1910.119 Process Safety Management of Highly Hazardous Chemicals.
Support implementation of MAESTRO initiatives as needed
Initiates incident reports for injuries, spills, fires, or other property damage, per 29 CFR 1904 Recording and Reporting Occupational Injuries and Illness and Company requirements.
Operate a forklift and aerial platform in a safe and prudent manner.
Safely lift and carry (for approximately 10-20 feet) heavy objects weighing up to 75 lbs. on an occasional basis.
Safely climb ladders (using feet, legs, hands and arms) and work safely at heights (approximately 30 ft.)
Wear personal protective equipment, which may include but not be limited to, hart hat, safety shoes, work uniforms, safety gloves, hearing protection, safety eyewear, arc flash accessories and emergency response equipment.
Wear dust mask and half/full-face air-purifying and supplied air respirator, in the performance of job duties and emergency response team duties.
Work in confined spaces, on a periodic basis.

CONTEXT AND ENVIRONMENT :

The Cray Valley Stratford CT manufacturing facility is a division of TotalEnergies Petrochemicals and Refining USA, Inc. Normal plant production operation is 24 hours, 4 Days with two 8-hour maintenance shifts 5 days per week. This position requires 24 HR / 7 DAY availability(call-ins) to support plant operations. Requires one to be able to handle multiple interactions with many site departments as well a providing support services to the following departments or groups: Production, Shipping Receiving, Quality Control, Process Engineering, Office and Logistics, Operations / HSSE Mgr., and the Safety Committee.

Manufacturing environment with chemical, physical, ergonomic, and electrical hazards. Work includes a variety of physical conditions including, but not limited to, proximity to moving mechanical parts and powered industrial trucks, potential exposure to hot work or steam, working with sharp instruments, and working at heights.
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors of the manufacturing complex. Worker is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions, which could include potential exposure normally associated with outdoor conditions (extreme outdoor temperatures, spiders, rodents, etc.).
Worker is subject to atmospheric conditions, including, but not limited to, potential exposure to dust, chemicals, and odors.
Works with and around hazardous substances.
Work may require use of protective clothing and equipment, which may include, but not be limited to, eye protection, head protection, hand protection, respiratory protection, arc flash accessories and foot protection.
Scheduled hours may vary in shifts and length.
Noise level in the work environment is below the OSHA permissible exposure limits; however, hearing protection is provided by the Company and recommended or preferred in certain areas of the facility.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
5-7 years previous experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
2-3 years previous experience in a chemical environment preferred.
Ability to operate a computer and peripheral equipment
Ability to develop multiple tasks and projects concurrently and efficiently.
Ability to organize and prioritize work in a timely manner and react well under pressure.
Ability to communicate and work as a member of a team.
Ability to compute and record data accurately.
Ability to work and communicate with other departments, co-workers, customers, vendors and contractors.
Computer/peripheral equipment, calculator, two-way emergency radios, telephone, scales, pumps and mixers, hand tools, packaging equipment, powered industrial vehicles, and a variety of other manufacturing equipment
