Maintenance Mechanic/Machinist

In-Place Machining Company designs and develops specialized machine tool systems and provides precision on-site portable machining services as well as optical and laser alignment and measurement to a wide range of industries.

The Maintenance Mechanic/Machinist position is very unique to our company. The position will include machine dismantling and determining how to proceed with the parts upon their return to our shop after job completion. The position will also require some manual machining – lathes, mills, and Bridgeports. Hydraulics experience is a plus.

This diverse position will include responsibilities such as:

  • Machine Assembly/Dismantling
  • Analyze quality of parts upon their return to the shop to determine if they are in safe condition to be used again, scrapped, or repaired as needed
  • Disassemble machinery in order to inspect machine components for wear. Scrape and repair as needed
  • Machine Debugging
  • Perform machine dry cycle run
  • Build custom built machinery according to mechanical drawings
  • Build subassemblies according to mechanical drawings
  • Ensure all adjustments are done properly and according to function and mechanical prints (e.g. sensors, cylinder strokes, belt tension, pressure settings, flow controls, etc.)
  • Repair and/or replace defective components of the system as required
  • Operate and maintain machinery used in the manufacturing process in an efficient and safe manner. Modify custom equipment in an efficient and safe manner
  • Setting gear meshing
  • Setting preloads on bearings
  • Provide necessary documentation and support for machinery Operating Manuals
  • Identify problems/issues and coordinate accordingly
  • Work from written and/or oral instructions

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with strong technical background
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with ability to safely and correctly use a variety of hand power tools including drills, saws, grinders and sanders
  • Demonstrated ability to read prints and schematics
  • Capable of operating Bridgeport, lathes, surface grinder and various other tools in the machine shop
  • Must be capable of verifying part conformance using measuring instruments such as scales, calipers, multi-meters, indicators, gauges, and micrometers.
  • Performing hydraulic unit testing and repair
  • Works with the machine building team to provide the most efficient and cost effective options to accomplish tasks
  • Communicates issues to the Department Leader/Manager
  • Ability to read and work from prints; mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic
  • Must be able to read assembly prints and assemble the components with minimal help.
  • Blueprint reading and interpretation
  • Requires Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) experience
  • Experience interpreting drawings, diagrams and schematics (electrical, pneumatic and other controls)
  • Experience with manual machines such as manual lathes, mills, boring bars, VTL’s, Bridgeports and other standard shop equipment
