We are looking for a Maintenance & Grounds Keeper to join the Commercial Operations Division in our highly saturated Portland, ME market. Now is the right time to become a team member at UPP Global!

Position Description, Responsibilities, and Duties:

  • Pay rate ranges from $16.50 to $20/hour, depending on experience. There is a possibility of occasional overtime hours depending on the workload at given times.
  • Shifts: Full-time hours. Daytimes, afternoons, evenings. Ability and Willingness to work outside of traditional business hours, within reason, is a requirement.
  • Driving is required, so a valid driver's license with a clean MVR record is mandatory.
  • Ability to drive a pickup truck / skid steer is preferred, and stength in ability of manual snow plowing by powered "walk and push" plow or by shovel is a plus.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate must have a general knowledge of building and grounds cleaning and maintenance, and a knowledge of how private pay-for-parking lots and garages operate, or able to demonstrate ability to perform said duties. Must be willing to work in any and all weather conditions (proper outerwear is provided) and complete tasks in challenging environments with a good attitude. No direct experience in parking or maintenance is required per se, however, the skills and ability to do the job duties will be evaluated by the skills and knowledge candidate has obtained from tenure at prior places of employment.

  • Maintain a pleasant, friendly, and professional demeanor with all guests, parkers, co-workers, and clients
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency and timeliness in all job functions
  • Walk, sweep, or hose down the parking lot areas, sidewalks, and walkways at least once each shift. Maintain walkways as required to keep them free of snow, ice or other environmental hazards. Use slip and fall markers where appropriate.
  • Walk grounds each shift and maintain grounds by collecting observable trash from the ground and treating pest sites with designated pesticides. Empty exterior garbage receptacles as needed.
  • Ensure that all dirt, dust, litter, and debris are removed from all areas of the facility.
  • General landscaping duties as needed and depending on season
  • Resolve customer complaints independently or with the aid of management
  • Pick-up and delivery of winter supplies, sand, salt, fuel, power equipment, vehicles, etc.
  • Shovel, plow, or blow snow from the entrance or exit ramps and in areas designated by management, as applicable. Remove snow from walkways on managed properties, applying salt/sand to prevent ground freeze-over.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Position Must-Haves:

  • Must be comfortable sitting, standing, kneeling, walking, driving and being active for most of the day. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50lbs. ·
  • Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions (Outerwear provided)
  • Must possess current drivers’ license that has been held for at least 3 consecutive years and maintain a clean driving record.
  • Must have good hand-eye coordination, as driving is required for a duration of some shifts · Must cover all visible tattoos while at work ·
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and able to undergo a criminal background check and motor vehicle report (MVR) check

Other Requirements:

  • High school degree or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and communicate effectively both verbally and through written correspondence.
  • Ability and willingness to be flexible in working at multiple facility locations and, when needed, outside of normal business hours including weekends, nights, and some holidays.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, occasionally under challenging circumstances or winter weather conditions.
  • Ability to maintain a professional and friendly demeanor when working with the parking customer, providing resolution as needed to customer issues.
  • Experience in the parking industry preferred

Safety and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws
  • Report any known accidents or violations of Company policy, safety hazards or any unusual occurrence to the local manager in a timely manner
  • Anticipate hazardous situations by maintaining clean, clear, and well-lit workspaces, customer walking areas, and all other indoor and outdoor spaces on properties
  • Show leadership by example when exercising best safety practices, facility management duties, and all other job duties. Create a safe workplace.
