The position is anticipated to last until December 2023. What you will do: The role of the Building-Based Substitute Teacher is to maintain classroom discipline and to carry on the classroom procedures as if he/she were the regular teacher. The Building-Based Substitute Teacher will maintain the same responsibilities and the same duties as the regular teacher, including duty assignments. In the absence of the teacher, provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth while following any lesson plans and/or instructions left by the classroom teacher.

Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.Some of your typical duties: 1.Assigned to rotate into various teaching positions in the school on a daily basis.2.Implement teacher lesson plans and administrator directives with fidelity and efficiency.3.Communicate with classroom teachers and if necessary principal regarding expectations for student work, behavior, and lesson execution. 4.Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all students.5.Gain familiarity with district curriculum and resources.6.Attend and contribute in staff meetings and professional development activities as directed.7.Perform supervisory duties as assigned (such as lunch, hall duty).8.Assist in development of curricular materials as assigned.9.Abide by state statutes, school committee policies and regulations 10.Attend meetings and performs duties as assigned by principal or their designee. 11.Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.12.Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.13.Report all suspicions of abuse and/or neglect to the principal.14.Maintain confidentiality regarding students and staff personnel information15.Be a positive role model for students, support the mission of the Department.16.Ability to be flexible with job assignments as needed 17.Remain current on instructional practices in education (e.g. instructional technology) 18.Assumes responsibility for other duties and responsibilities that may be assigned.Knowledge, skills, and qualifications we are looking for: Preferred candidates will be licensed or eligible for emergency licensure by the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Special Education.

Students come to GLTHS from four communities: the city of Lowell, which sends approximately 80 percent of our students; Dracut, with about 15 percent, and the remainder from suburban Tyngsborough and Dunstable.
