Overview:
The Logistics Worker is a member of the Facilities Operations and plays a critical role in the daily operations of the campus. The Logistics Worker is a support role in a warehouse environment. Under the general direction of the Surplus Coordinator and the Mover Supervisor /Lead Mover, the Logistics Worker will assist in the day to day operations of Building Services’ Logistics Services.

As part of the University’s Facilities Operations, the staff in Building Services has a daily presence in every building on Princeton’s campus, and is responsible for cleaning, moving, logistical support of campus events and running the Resource Recovery program, including several warehouse complexes for rental equipment, documents storage, surplus items and a few important artifacts managed by Building Services. We also maintain or inspect student laundromats, campus fire extinguishers, pest control, and the University waste and recycling stream. Our teams clean over 10,000,000 square feet daily, deliver, setup and take down over 125,000 pieces of rental equipment each year, manage nearly 100,000 square feet of warehouse space, and remove over 5,000 tons of waste and recycling each year.
Responsibilities:
  • Transfer material, including boxes, equipment, furniture, etc. from trucks into the storage facility using hand and power material handling equipment.
  • Maintain the interior and exterior of the warehouse in a clean and safe manner.
  • Label boxes, furniture, equipment, etc. in preparation for transfer to storage areas
  • Receiving, testing, and triaging of surplus materials for sales, disposal or recycling.
  • Drive delivery trucks throughout the University and off campus to deliver and/or pick up furniture, paper goods, machinery, rental equipment or other items as needed.
  • Lift heavy objects (up to 100 pounds) and transfer greater weight using either manual or powered material handling equipment such as flat dollies, pallet jacks, fork lifts, etc.
  • Use a mobile application for an electronic work order system.
  • Perform minor maintenance on commercial vehicles such as checking motor fluids and lubricants, greasing necessary fittings and keeping hydraulic fluids at proper levels.
  • Maintain and inspect all equipment for defects.
  • Perform basic repairs on rental equipment.
  • Interact professionally with University customers, including faculty, staff, students and parents.
  • Perform duties diligently, particularly during stressful periods.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Prior experience in logistics and/or warehouse environment.
  • Basic knowledge of shipping processes.
  • Experience using electronic devices (i.e., computers, laptops, tablets, cell phones).
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows based computer software.
  • Must be able to comprehend written and oral instructions in English.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s license.
  • Must be able to safely operate material handling equipment that is capable of transferring heavier objects; ability to handle and maneuver fragile stock with ease.
  • Must be able to obtain Fork Lift Certification within six months of hire.
  • Must be able to work overtime; before start of shift, at end of shift, week-ends, etc.
  • Strong communication, memorization, and teamwork skills.
  • Outstanding organizational and investigative abilities.
  • Ability to work with small hand and power tools.
  • Work outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions.
  • Shovel snow and operate snow Blowers.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to sit for less than 2 hours during an 8 hour day.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle or heavy equipment (e.g., forklift or order picker) occasionally (less than 33% of the workday).
  • Must be able to lift or carry up to 50 pounds frequently (34 – 66% of the workday) and up to 100 pounds occasionally (less than 33% of the workday).
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds in a range of motions from floor to shoulder height.
    Must be able to climb up to 4 flights of stairs while carrying up to 50 pounds by hand or while moving objects with appliance dollies or similar material handling tools requiring up to 100 pounds of pushing or pulling forces occasionally (up to 33% of the workday).
  • Must be able to use hands for simple grasping, pushing, or pulling frequently (34 – 66% of the workday).
  • Must be able to squat, reach overhead, lift overhead, push or pull with forces up to 100 pounds occasionally (up to 33% of the workday).
  • Must be able to bend, climb stairs or ladders, push or pull with forces up to 50 pounds frequently (34 – 66% of the workday).
  • Must be able to work outdoors in a variety of temperatures and environmental conditions; shovel snow and operate a snow blower.
  • Must possess ability to work at heights, physical agility and full range of motion, and ability to maintain balance.
