Context

The Coalition Coordinator seeks to build a team of people and organizations committed to develop, implement, and monitor effective community-based prevention programs and enhance the community’s ability to address substance abuse issues facing youth.

The Tiverton/Little Compton Prevention Coalition is funded in part by the Newport County Prevention Coalition. From 1987 to 2022 Tiverton and Little Compton have maintained two separate coalitions. In 2023, the Tiverton and Little Compton coalitions will merge to provide additional strength and effectiveness to the prevention efforts of the members.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work independently and maintain a flexible schedule; must be available to work evenings and weekends when events dictate.
  • Education in a human service area (broadly defined)
  • Certified as a Prevention Specialist or willing to achieve certification in a timely manner; must maintain certification through renewal every two years.
  • Excellent communication skills, group facilitation; conflict resolution experience preferred
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Must pass BCI check as a condition of employment

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate prevention efforts between the coalition and community sectors, including: town government, police, schools, mental health organizations, health care providers, media, business community, religious organizations and other relevant organizations;
  • Inform community about coalition efforts; secure partnerships; serve on relevant committees within communities and recruit sector representatives;
  • Collect data to assess community prevention needs; document and report on findings;
  • Facilitate at least 10 coalition meetings per year; create/distribute agenda and maintain accurate meeting minutes;
  • Develop an annual prevention program plan and oversee implementation of coalition’s goals and objectives in collaboration with Newport County Prevention Coalition
  • When appropriate, seek additional funding; write grants for activities related to the goals and objectives of the coalition; and oversee implementation/ evaluation (when required)

Relationship to Newport County Prevention Coalition (NCPC)

  • Attend NCPC monthly meetings and trainings
  • Keep the coalition up to date on NCPC and state requirements
  • Complete documentation forms and other related records as requested by NCPC.

Hours: T/LC Prevention Coordinator will work 20 hours per week

Supervision: T/LC coordinator will be supervised by NCPC Director of Prevention

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
