We are an Insurance Defense Law Firm in Vancouver, Washington seeking a highly motivated full time, in-office Paralegal with at least five years of experience to proficiently and effectively assist attorneys in all aspects of the litigation process.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to prioritize, maintain a high-volume caseload, help attorneys to stay current with case updates and status reporting deadlines, have excellent writing and communication skills, and manage the demands of a busy practice while working independently and under the direction and supervision of licensed attorneys.

The successful applicant will be reliable, flexible, and have forethought with planning to successfully achieve goals. They will have a positive attitude with the ability to remain calm, focused, and professional while working with diverse personalities in a deadline-driven, high-expectation environment.

Position Hours

· 8:00 A.M. -5:00 P.M. Monday-Friday (In-Office)

*With occasional overtime hours because of workload and nature of the work

Education/Experience

Required:

· A minimum of five years’ experience in civil litigation matters

Preferred:

· Experience with Personal Injury Law

· Bachelor's Degree in related field

· American Bar Association (ABA) approved Paralegal Certificate

· Experience in insurance defense, personal injury, appellate, declaratory actions, mobile phone records petitions/subpoenas, and multi-jurisdictional litigation

· Proficient with e-filing in both State and Federal Courts with an understanding of the various e-filing processes and requirements

· A Notary Public

· Bi-lingual

Skills

Technological:

Current knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel), time-tracking software, Adobe Pro (Bates numbering, headers/footers, redaction, pdf compilation/extraction, digital organizing, etc.), PowerPoint, Internet search engines, and other web-based applications with ability/desire to learn new software applications.

Written:

Excellent skills in editing, proofreading, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and composition.

Professional:

Possess a professional demeanor and work ethic even when under pressure. Requires ability to be productive with limited supervision. Must exercise a high degree of personal integrity, confidentiality, tact, discretion, and judgment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include daily handling of files from inception through closure. The successful candidate will be required to exercise independent thought and be well versed in all aspects of the civil litigation process. Our paralegals take ownership of their files to include file management/organization, deadline monitoring, scheduling, medical record retrieval and summary, drafting pleadings/motions, party investigation, deposition and trial binders, IME/expert interaction, and assisting with all aspects of trial/arbitration/mediation preparation and attendance.

Secondary responsibilities include other administrative support such as case event coordination, some calendaring, copying/scanning, word processing revisions, time/data entry, and internal filing.

Additional duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

· Preparing correspondence, drafting pleadings, formatting pleadings, and prepare/gather/monitor/organize discovery and discovery responses

· Investigating, locating, analyzing, summarizing, and tracking facts, evidence, and other data using online resources, such as PACER, OECI, LINX, KC Script Portal, Odyssey Portal, state court dockets, search engines, and social media

· Facilitating records requests, including medical, DMV, police, courts, etc.

· Locating and interviewing witnesses and working with investigator as needed

· Working with experts and witnesses, including researching potential experts, preparation of documents for review, and coordination of filing and/or service of expert reports and attendance of expert at case events

· Communicating with clients, co-counsel, opposing counsel, courts, government agencies, etc.

· Researching, analyzing, and summarizing exchanged discovery, depositions, evidence, witness statements, and medical records

· Drafting privilege and redaction logs

· Facilitating independent medical examinations

· Facilitating court filings (completing filings when necessary) *Inclusive of e-filing

· Tracking deadlines, ensuring deadlines are met, scheduling

· Preparing medical and/or case chronologies and summaries

· Preparing files for hearings, arbitrations, mediations, and trials

· Directing staff in the organization and management of data and evidence

· The flexibility to work occasional overtime hours because of workload and nature of the work

· Assisting with case management

· Accurately tracking and recording time spent on tasks and projects

· Performing other duties as required
