Job description
Conducts Daily Airfield Safety Inspection: uses crew car and handheld radio to manually inspect airport runways/tarmac area for hazards including cracks or holes, foreign objects, vegetation, ruts/depressions, and rodent or other animal damage; ensures proper signage; ensures working lights including edge threshold, taxiway, apron edge, and airport beacon; ensures structures are operational and free of damage; all observations/conditions/potential issues reported to CCAA Operations immediately to maintain optimal safety standards.

Initiates Emergency Response: notifies CCAA of an aircraft accident or incident, 24 hours a day/7 days a week; follows emergency protocol for any situation requiring emergency services: dispenses correct fuel for each aircraft: supports piston, turboprop, and jet aircraft by selecting, testing, delivering, and disbursing proper fuel.

Conducts Fuel Quality Control procedures: follows ATA 103 guide for fuel quality control procedures; ensures fuel from fuel trucks/fuel tanks is clean and dry; utilizes hydrometer to verify fuel specific gravity and confirm correct fuel per order before pumping fuel into fuel farm tanks before delivery.

Manages Ramp traffic and activity: ensures safety for vehicle and foot traffic; utilizes hand signals and ground radio to communicate and direct aircraft into appropriate parking spots; directs traffic purposefully to avoid injury or damage due to spinning propellers or jet engine thrust.

Facilitates tie-down procedures: secures each aircraft after flight by following tie-down procedures to prevent losses/damages/injury caused by winds or sudden storms; utilizes FAA-approved knots to include double-locking half stitch and bowline.

Facilitates aircraft towing as necessary: Minimizes need to tow through traffic management; if towing is required, follows pre-tow inspection process to ensure the safety of personnel/aircraft/structures; completes safety checklist allowing aircraft to be towed with a tow bar and golf cart or tow bar alone; continually assesses the situation and consults with pilot or supervisor any issues arise; maintains highest levels of consideration for checklist and optimal safety.

Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures: receives and reviews various documentation, and reviews, completes, processes, forwards, or retains as appropriate; prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation; compiles data for further processing or for use in the preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.

Operates or uses various equipment and supplies in order to complete work assignments: operates a golf cart, fuel pump, hydrometer, tie downs, two-way radio, and other power or motorized equipment; personal computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, Internet, e-mail, or other software; utilizes credit card machine to process payments; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.

Performs other related duties as required.

Job Requirements:
  • Requires the level of formal education typically acquired by high school graduation or acquisition of a GED.
  • Requires little vocational experience. Involves knowledge and comprehension of techniques, information, methods, and procedures, which are related to specific jobs and which can be acquired from some combination of vocational training, apprentice training, on-the-job training, or essential experience in lower-level jobs during a period of up to 6 months.
  • Job duties can be learned from simple multiple-step instructions or demonstrations of moderate repetition.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license.
