POSITION SUMMARY:
Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, on the deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a
safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

Maintains constant surveillance of the pool and the pool areas. 

Maintains current knowledge of all emergency procedures within pool and pool area. 

Responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with BGC policies and
procedures; provides timely and accurate reports and follow-ups. 

Knows, understands, and consistently applies health and safety rules, policies,
guidelines for the pool and pool area. 

Conveys information on programs and schedules to members. 

Maintains accurate records required by BGC and state agencies. 

Perform equipment checks and ensure availability of required equipment. 

Perform chemical testing as prescribed; take immediate corrective action as needed. 

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Minimum age of 16 

CPR for the Professional Rescuer; AED; Basic First Aid Certifications. 

Current Certification YMCA Lifeguarding OR Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification. 

Ability to achieve Oxygen Administration certification within 30 days of hire. 

Ability to maintain certification level of physical and mental alertness.
