Job Description

This position will be responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of all core building and life sciences HVAC/Mechanical systems. The successful candidate should be innovative at heart and have a drive to be best in class. The candidate will comply with all applicable safety codes, regulations, government agencies and company directives related to building operation within a life sciences environment. The successful candidate will have experience in large tonnage HVAC systems and central chiller plants and RODI, PH Neutralization, Air Systems and Lab Gases.

Duties and responsibilities

· Coordinates with assigned foreman and/or other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.

· Diagnoses causes of problems and/or failures in heating/air conditioning systems for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or system repair and/or replacement needs.

· Fabricates equipment parts for the purpose of meeting specialty needs and/or replacing unavailable parts.

· Informs personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with building and safety regulations.

· Inspects HVAC systems and their components (e.g. heating units, building exhaust fans, ventilation units, etc.) for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventive maintenance.

· Installs heating and air conditioning equipment and systems for the purpose of providing enhanced and/or upgraded capabilities.

· Maintains vehicle, tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating condition.

· Participates in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars, as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.

· Performs routine and preventive maintenance as needed for the purpose of ensuring the ongoing functioning of HVAC systems.

· Prepares written materials (e.g. repair status, activity logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information.

· Repairs heating and air conditioning systems and/or components (e.g. pumps, motors, air handlers, fan coils, piping, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a comfortable work environment.

· Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair.

· Identify resolutions to recurring mechanical issues.

· Responds to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.

· Improve plant/equipment reliability through historical trending and improved maintenance procedures.

· Participate in Failure Analysis and Vulnerability studies.

· Execute equipment maintenance strategies (predictive and preventive)

· Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.

· Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

· Studies blueprints and diagrams in order to plan material and labor needed to accomplish tasks.

· Operates machines and other equipment to observe operation and diagnose malfunctions or to test repaired equipment.

· Other duties or projects as assigned or requested

Qualifications and Education requirements

1. HVAC Degree is preferred; Active MA license in a mechanical field is required.

2. A minimum of 5 yrs HVAC experience in the Life Sciences environment

3. Demonstrated strong supervisory skills and abilities;

4. Strong communication skills and ability to deal tactfully and efficiently at all levels of the organization.

5. Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills.

6. Awareness of operational safety requirements in a critical environment and ability to apply and follow procedures and requirements per regulatory bodies.

7. Strong desire to be a part of a high growth company with a willing to work in a team environment and a fast-paced, results-oriented culture.

8. Ability to communicate at all levels of organization and work well within a team environment in support of company objectives.

9. Handle new tasks without the benefit of written procedures in addition to being approachable, flexible and adaptable to change in a fast-paced environment.

10. Display a high level of professionalism with the ability to maintain confidentiality.

11. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize.

12. Advanced knowledge of OSHA, NEC, and NFC codes and regulations

13. Advanced knowledge of Trane HVAC and Siemens control systems is preferred.
