Essex Westford School District is seeking a Learning Specialist/Special Educator to join our dynamic team of educators at Albert D. Lawton Intermediate School, beginning with the 2023-2024 school year. The Learning Specialist case manages, coordinates, and oversees the implementation of effective interventions for special education, 504, and EST students in collaboration with teachers, parents/caregivers, the student, and other professional and paraprofessional personnel. The position will focus on literacy, math, and behavior support services to help assigned children reach Vermont's learning standards in the least restrictive environment possible.EWSD is committed to considering out-of-state candidates who are eligible to hold a Vermont educator license but do not yet hold a license in this state. Folks with experience working in another country, the ability to fluently speak more than one language, and/or peace corp. experience are encouraged to apply to help contribute to a diversity of thinking and grow our organizational practices.Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:
- Masters degree or equivalent in Special Education or another appropriate discipline (or Bachelors degree with a combination of education and experience).
- 3 to 4 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Working knowledge of Vermont Special Education Law and/or recent experience working in a Vermont school district preferred
- Hold or be eligible to hold a valid VT Educator license with a Special Educator (3-82) or Consulting Teacher (3-85) endorsement.
- Demonstrates knowledge of human development, including the implications of various delays, disorders, and disabling conditions for learning and development.
- Possess knowledge and skill in implementing standards-based curricula, differentiated instruction, and formative assessment in a collaborative environment.
