JOB SUMMARY

The Early Learning Assistant is the third adult in the preschool classroom, assists in instruction, participates in classroom management, and supervises children in the Early Head Start and Head Start classrooms and playgrounds.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Desire to work with children ages 3-5 years old.
• Ability to gain CPR and First Aid Certification and maintain certifications
• A current physical, TB test, background check, and drug test are required. Drug test and Background check are given by the company at company expense.
• Requires the ability to bend, kneel, and squat many times each day.
• Requires ability to prevent or rescue children from potentially dangerous situations in a short amount of time.
• Requires visual and auditory ability to observe children.
• Requires ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds several times a day.
• Problem solving and critical thinking ability.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Completion of daily attendance, meal counts, health & safety checklists, etc.
• Implement activities and teaching methods to carry out the program according to the developmental level of the individual child.
• Implement the Head Start Creative Curriculum in the classroom and follow developmentally appropriate practices according to the lesson plan.
• Communicate to Supervisor observed safety, physical, and licensing issues.
• Participate in family style dining according to Head Start standards.
• Observation and documentation of children’s growth and development using the DRDP resources and tools in writing or on an ipad.
• Minimizes teacher-directed learning by involving children in problem solving and conflict resolution techniques.
• Involves children in establishing rules and limits that are consistent, reasonable, clear, and have a logical consequence.
• Incorporates primarily use of positive language in directing children’s activities and/or behaviors.
• Encourages children to engage in conversations and events that are meaningful, talk things over, and exchange ideas and opinions.
• Supervises children during naptime and staff supervisions, disinfects toys and materials, completes anecdotal notes and documentation, and ensures ratios are maintained daily.
• Other duties as assigned.
