Bel is seeking enthusiastic, accountable people to join our manufacturing team in Little Chute, WI. At Bel, Safety is our number one priority. This is an hourly position represented by Teamsters Local Union 662. Standard operating hours are Monday through Friday, 1st shift 6am – 3pm, 2nd shift 2pm – 11pm, 3rd shift 10pm – 6am (dependent on department). Shift times are subject to change. Overtime may be required (Saturdays) with regular Sunday overtime for Sanitation department.


Job Description Summary

The Maintenance Lead will be required to assist in directing and training maintenance crew, assisting with project planning and coordination, scheduling and planning preventive maintenance along with various plant projects. Work must be performed with little to no supervision, utilizing knowledge and skills to perform the maximum amount of efficiency.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead Duties
    • Works with Maintenance Supervisor to direct daily maintenance crew work assignments. Includes distributing scheduled preventive maintenance, plant corrective maintenance, plant improvement projects and CapEx projects. May also include coordination with outside contractors and suppliers.
    • Assists Project Engineer with project planning and coordination, including coordination with outside contractors and suppliers.
    • Determines spare part needs and coordinate the Maintenance Coordinator for ordering.
    • Performs a minimum of Maintenance I functions as needed and/or assigned.
  • Maintenance I Duties
    • Mechanical: Rebuilding of equipment, gearing, general repair, and to trouble shoot all equipment.
    • Electrical: All wiring diagrams of 115 - 220 single phase motors, 208 220 and 440 three phase motors, a working knowledge of all starting equipment, relays and wiring, etc
    • Fabrication: Sheet metal fabrication, to include welding, filing and machining where needed.
    • Pipe fitting, water, gas and air, along with sanitary lines and valving.
    • Works with refrigeration, ammonia and freezers.
    • Reads and works from prints, takes field measurements, and makes readable sketches or diagrams when necessary.
    • Performs all duties with a sense of urgency and all work quickly and efficiently.
    • Must accept recalls.
    • All other duties as assigned.

  • Safety, Environmental and Quality
    • Follows all safety rules and procedures by working safely and ensuring safety of others.
    • Follows all environmental protocols as applicable to the job.
    • Follows all Good Manufacturing Practices as stated within the policy.
    • Follow all food safety procedures.
    • Maintains a sanitary and safe work area; performs housekeeping duties as necessary and/or required.
    • Detects potentially hazardous conditions and problems and takes appropriate action to report and/or correct.

Knowledge and Experience Requirements

  • 3 years of experience as a Maintenance Tech in a manufacturing environment is required. Food manufacturing is preferred.
  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Journeyman certificate or maintenance degree is preferred.
  • Will be required to provide own tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to work from prints, take field measurements and make readable sketches or diagrams when necessary.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of plant equipment and facilities.
  • Demonstrated communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all plant safety rules.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, including ability to coordinate work assignments for maintenance.

Lifting Requirement

  • Sedentary Work

Lifting 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying articles as dockets, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and other sedentary criteria are met.


  • Light Work

Lifting 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job is in this category when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree or when it involves sitting most of the time with a degree of pushing and pulling of arm and/ or leg controls.


  • Medium Work

Lifting of 50 pounds maximum with the frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.


  • Very Heavy Work

Lifting objects 100 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing 50 pounds or more. Team lift is required for objects weighing over 50 pounds.
