Title: Lead Camp Counselor

Type of Position: Part-Time, Seasonal

FLSA Classification: Hourly Non-Exempt

Pay Rate: $20 - $25/Hr. (depends on experience)

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The Lead Camp Counselor is responsible for leading and implementing core and non-core programs and experiences for children in a small group setting. They are responsible for the general safety and development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants in his/her group. The Lead Camp Counselor is also responsible for overseeing Camp Counselors throughout the camp day.

Location: Ashburn & Aldie, VA

Camp Dates:

• Prep for Camp – July 5th -14th
• Week 1 – July 17th – 21st
• Week 2 – July 24th – 28th
• Week 3 – July 31st – August 4th
• Week 4 – August 7th – 11th

Hours: Varies, must have availability 8:30 AM - 5 PM

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Organize and lead a variety of small and large group activities each week. Activities may include crafts, nature, songs or games.
• Identify and respond to camper behavioral issues.
• Oversee Camp Counselor team.
• Ensure that the site is kept clean, organized, and free of litter.
• Communicate with parents about participant’s experiences.
• Maintain accurate program records including incident reports, and daily attendance.
• Know and understand ALL emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
• Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp and all program areas. This includes but is not limited to being responsible for your campers’ safety and their whereabouts at all times.
• Take photos, create/update and email a weekly presentation to parents.
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Education classes or experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field.
• College or beyond preferred.

ABILITIES REQUIRED

• Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities which include, but are not limited to, hiking, canoeing, swimming, team building initiatives, physical games, and activities.
• Must have the ability to physically support children when needed for safety in general camp activities.
• Normal physical strength to handle routine office materials, tools, and objects up to 25 lbs.
• Typical eye-hand-foot coordination.
• Typical physical mobility, which includes movement from place to place.
• Typical verbal, written and non-verbal communication.
• Typical ability to see, distinguish color and hear.

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
• Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

• Ashburn, VA 20148: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

Experience:

• Childcare: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

• First Aid Certification (Preferred)
• CPR Certification (Preferred)
