Job description
Performs varying levels of manual work in year-round outdoor conditions. Work involves highway and general construction and repair; work road maintenance, snow and ice clearing and general maintenance. Sweeps and cleans building facilities and assists in vehicle maintenance.
The Laborers work with and under the supervision of upper classifications and are to maintain safe working conditions at all times.
Preference will be given to current Town of Greenwich employees who are members of Teamsters Local 456.
Graduation from high school or equivalent, plus 6 months of experience performing related heavy manual labor or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Work experience must have been obtained within the last 7 years.
SPECIAL NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS:
Obtain and maintain Commercial driver's license with DOT Medical Card, Class A or B, within 6 months of appointment.

100% Written Examination
Pass/Fail Performance Examination
ESSENTIAL FEATURES:
Performs as a flag person for traffic control, assists truck driver, arranges traffic signs, cones and barricades for safety and traffic control. Responsible for safe operation of vehicle, safety of helpers, passengers and public.
Working knowledge and general understanding of construction materials, practices and equipment.

The Town reserves the right to limit the number of qualified candidates who will be invited to participate in the examination, or any part thereof. The eligible list containing the names of successful examination candidates will be in force for a minimum period of six (6) months, and will allow candidates to be considered for appointment to this position and any others in the same class, which may become available during that timeframe.
All outside candidates will be required to undertake and successfully pass a pre-employment medical examination, which includes a substance abuse test, given at the Town's expense prior to employment if conditionally offered a part time, full time or safety sensitive position.
The Town of Greenwich has implemented a policy of background investigations all full and part time positions positions prior to hiring as part of the reference checking procedures for outside candidates. The investigation will only be conducted as the last step prior to an offer. Refusal to sign the release form will terminate the candidate's further consideration.
