Position Title: Laborer:
Reports To: Labor Superintendent

Hourly Rate: $19.37 p/h - $37.00 p/h (DOE)
FULL TIME POSITION-OVERTIME ELIGBILE :

Position Summary : :
PSI is the largest privately owned shipyard in Hawaii, with two of the largest dry docks in the state. We have been in business since 1944 and have a large labor force of skilled craftsman with a full support staff of professionals who comprise of engineering, project management, QA, EHS, accounting, contracts, and human resources.

The Laborer prepares, assists, and cleans various work areas that may include hazardous materials. This position support(s) all areas of production, i.e. structural, mechanical, blasting, painting, electrical, etc.

    • Maintain and ensure the safety of all assigned equipment.
    • Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
    • Meet productivity goals and quality standards as set by management.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
  • Able to understand verbal or written instructions given and to perform correctly
  • Trained and uses proper manual lighting techniques
  • Familiar with shipboard terms, nomenclature, and location
  • Proficient with terminology used in the various trade(s)
  • Familiar with general NAVSEA and ABS standard items
  • Able to properly set up and demobilize requirements at day’s beginning, day’s end, or job completion
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Skills/Technical Knowledge: :
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Ability to organize and prioritize to meet deadlines.
    • Good attitude; must be a team player

Education, Training & Experience: :
    • Familiar with industry standards for commercial and military
    • Ship repair experience preferred
    • 1-2 years working experience as a laborer in an industrial or commercial environment
    • Knowledgeable with PSI’s Basic Shipyard Safety Rules and Regulations
    • Knowledge of vessels, commercial, military, and nautical terminology.
    • Knowledge of regulatory standards, including NAVSEA, ABS, CG, etc., as well as federal and state regulations.
    • Flexible work hours. Evening, weekend, days, shifts, and holiday work will be required based on the needs of the business.
    • Shipyard/Industrial Experience valuable

Physical Demands: :
    • Must be able to carry, lift, push/pull, bend, and squat up to 50 lbs.

Description of Work Environment: :
    • Shipyard environments will vary making it necessary to tolerate weather conditions, such as rain and extreme temperatures.
    • Employees may be exposed to dust, dirt, varying temperatures, loud noises, etc.

Qualification/Requirements: :
    • Must show proof of your legal right to work in the United States
    • This position requires US Citizenship due to clearance required for base access
    • Must be able to successfully obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
    • Must be able to successfully obtain and maintain a Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) Credential to gain access to federally controlled work sites
    • All candidates must submit to and pass a post-offer drug screening, physical test and a background check before employment begins. Failure to complete any of these steps will result in disqualification
    • Valid State of Hawaii drivers' license in good standing, class 3 or higher
    • Candidates must have access to reliable transportation to get to work and other job sites on time for the start of shift

This position is represented by The International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, Iron Shipbuilders, Blacksmiths, Forgers, and Helpers, AFL-CIO and its Local Lodge 627. Candidates must become a member of the union as a condition of employment.
