JOB DESCRIPTION

Scope

Purpose of the job is to perform tests on In-Process and Finished material samples. Advise production personnel of necessary adjustments, to the Bliss Press Operators for In-Process material in order to ensure material conformance to customer specifications. Advises technical personnel of out-of-specification finished test results to ensure material conformance to customer specifications.

Functions

• Calibrates dial indicator gauges, performs in-process examination involving visual inspection of samples for physical defects and dimensional tests of cup height, base gauge, wall thickness, wall thickness variation, wall height, grain weight, and outside diameter to ensure customer specifications are met. Records results on daily inspection chart to track press performance. Checks press skeleton scrap for presence of physical defects.

• Records all material test results in the appropriate computer program.

• Prepares metal sample for testing by cutting to appropriate test dimensions. Sets up machinery according to requirements for each sample.

• Utilizes various equipment to test samples according to standard procedure and instructions described in our ISO procedures. Measures characteristics such as grain size, hardness, conductivity, tensile and yield strengths, % elongation, tin thickness, bend tests, and other tests to ensure conformance to customer specifications.

• Weighs in-process boxes according to standard procedure and prepares production report detailing gross, tare and net weights. Forwards to Production Department for use in maintaining production and shipment schedules. Prepares and attaches shipping labels; organizes cups for shipment. Inspects box contents to ensure that labels match.

• Prepares cups from each lot for chemical and spectro analysis by crushing, sanding & polishing. Forwards sample to spectro lab for tests and preparation of affidavits. Assists and substitutes for others and performs

• Notifies Quality Control Metallurgists or other appropriate personnel of non-conforming samples that may require additional investigation.

• Occasionally amends the off-shift Press Room schedule due to equipment breakdowns or change in available personnel.

• Will dispatch bargaining unit employees to the scheduling area if surplus resources are available in the department.

Minimum Requirements

§ AAS in a Technical Discipline

§ 3-5 years full-time professional work experience.
