About the Department

The Adams lab is focused on defining the molecular and mechanistic aspects of immune recognition. We use biochemistry, protein engineering, structural biology and in vitro/ex vivo functional systems to understand how immune cells engage with their environment and are regulated in human health and disease. Much of what we do is engineering proteins and using them to test models based on structural biology work. This at-will position is wholly or partially funded by contractual grant funding which is renewed under provisions set by the grantor of the contract. Employment will be contingent upon the continued receipt of these grant funds and satisfactory job performance.

Job Summary

The job performs routine assignments related to scientific research projects. Ensures compliance of research activities with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives and mandates. Analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures. Writes articles, reports and manuscripts. Assists in drafting presentations on research findings. We are looking for a highly-organized and level-headed laboratory manager to ensure that all lab operations run smoothly by ordering supplies, maintaining health and safety protocols, managing equipment maintenance and repairs, reviewing and renewing IRB and IBC protocols and training new lab members on the general functions of the lab. This individual will be responsible for ensuring that lab members follow research safety requirements and maintaining the lab manual. This individual will also perform research support functions for certain projects in lab and will have a basic understanding of molecular biology and tissue culture protocols.
Responsibilities
  • The position will be performing molecular biology, protein expression and tissue culture/FACS.
  • The position will provide lab management in ordering, maintaining equipment and lab manual in addition to other basic administrative support.
  • The position will oversee renewal of biosafety and human subjects (IBC and IRB) protocols.
  • The position will supervise a respectful and positive laboratory environment.
  • Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
  • Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
  • Installs, sets up and performs experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.
  • Maintains recruiting and scheduling research subjects; assisting with developing or amending study protocols; assisting with developing data collection tools; assisting with building databases; and providing general administrative support. Has general awareness in research techniques or methods, regulatory policies and procedures, and relevant scientific field.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience:
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience:
  • Preferred experience in molecular biology, protein expression, tissue culture and Flow Cytometry.
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Phlebotomist certification preferred, not required.
Preferred Competencies
  • Knowledge of how to maintain a lab notebook and follow protocols.
  • Managerial experience in a group setting.
  • Ability to coordinate equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Experience in maintenance of safety protocols and human subject research protocols.
