In the central part of Kentucky, along the southern border with Tennessee, this area of the Daniel Boone National Forest surrounds Laurel River Lake, a 5,600-acre reservoir. The Laurel River Lake is surrounded by some of the most rugged terrain west of the Appalachian Mountains and yet the camping, hiking, boating, and fishing draw more than a million visitors to the forest each year.
